Getting into the swing of things

It’s week three of school, and we’re getting into the swing of things now. Everyone should have gone home with a reading book and a reading record today. At home, children should re-read what we did in class, and it’s always a good idea to read together if you can.

In maths, we are practising counting up to 100 and back again, learning our number bonds to 10 really well (for example: 6 and 4 make 10, 7 and 3 make 10, etc), and learning about place value. Adding and taking away continue to be part of our lessons as well, of course!

After spending a few weeks getting used to school routines, class rules, and making friends, we are ready to begin a new topic. Starting this week, we will be looking at travel and transport. We began by designing a car of the future!

The children enjoy show-and-tell in our class, with each table group getting a turn once a week. Children can bring items from home, provided they’ve asked permission first! Our show-and-tell rota is up on the information board in class and we look at it daily, so children should be able to plan ahead.

There are a few children who don’t have PE kit in school yet. Can I please remind everyone that we have PE on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children will need appropriate indoor PE kit that includes a t-shirt and shorts, and outdoor kit that includes tracksuit bottoms and a sweatshirt or hoodie.

I’m delighted to see so many enthusiastic learners in our class! Let’s keep it up!
