Primary 1’s Exciting Week

It has been an exciting week this week in primary 1.

In sounds we have been learning ‘qu’ which means we have learnt all sounds of the letters in the alphabet.  This is helping with blending which has been a focus this week.  We have been using our sounds to read words in our reading books.  Also reading rhyming words which are in our reading corner.

Our fairytale this week was The Gingerbread Man.

In writing we wrote about our snow days.  Primary 1 had great stories of what they had been doing.

In maths, we were recognising numbers, doing some addition using the stimulus of the week, The Gingerbread Man.

We have been using different material through play to make gingerbread men.  We used card, sequins, buttons and gingerbread playdough.

As the snow was still around on Monday, we went out and explored hw snow.  We painted our numbers and names in the snow.  We also made a snowman’s which the children called Frosty.

On our rescheduled World Book Day, everyone looked great in the favourite character outfits.  We also went on a bear hunt around the school which was very exciting for the children.  When we found the bear we had a teddybears picnic.  The children really enjoyed this.

On Friday, we had vertical groups.  There were three different activities split between the groups (creating playground games, playground clear up andearning about Fairtrade).
