Short week in Primary 1

This has been a short but busy week in Primary 1.

We learnt a new sound this week.  It was the sound ‘w’.  We recognised this sound straight away and we were using it with other sounds to blend.  Also we looked at pictures and sounded out the word so we could write words with middle sound ‘o’.

For writing this week, we wrote in our Valentine’s cards for people at home.  They all looked lovely.

In Maths, we were to continue to learn about number.  We were learning to recognise numbers from 0-20 and challenging ourselves by going to 30.

We have been learning about Chinese New Year this week.  We made Chinese lanterns and learnt about the animal race that created the Chinese zodiac.  This year is the year of the dog.  In Primary 1 we are the year of the dragon and the snake.

We learnt about a famous Scottish Artist, Steven Brown.  We studied some of his work by telling the class how the paintings make us feel.  We were learning about using different colours (we called it rainbow colours) and drawing lines.  We then used oil pastels to create our own McCoos.  We all gave them a special name.
