Primary 1 update

Primary 1 have been busy this week.

In sounds we have been continuing to practice the sounds we have learnt so far.  We were using our sounds by blending them together to make words.  This is something we need to practice everyday and will continue to.

In our writing this week we learnt what a postcard is and wrote one to Katie Morag to tell her about where we stay and what we like doing.  This week in our Vibrant Vocabulary we used the stimulus Who Flung Dung.  The words we enjoyed learning this week were accusingly, culprit, ghastly, ridiculous.  We used our true and false cards to answer questions about the book.  We also used our reading character Emily Emotion to discuss how the main character was feeling.  We then related this to how we feel about the story and relating our feelings to the characters.

In PE, we continued to learn Highland Dancing using the meter sticks as swords.  Primary 1 really love dancing to Scottish music and get excited about it every week.

In Maths we were to continue to learn about money.  Also, we were learning number by trying to add using the strategy counting on.  We had two piles of counters, one we could see and the other which was hidden.

Primary 1 also learned about a Baptism, they used role play to understand the different roles needed in this event.

In our Katie Morag topic we were learning about comparing.  We were discussing and drawing what we like in Broxburn and what the island where Katie Morag stays has.

On Wednesday we had a visit from the SSPCA.  The inspector came in to talk to us about what she does and what we should do if an animal is in danger.

We learnt about the Winter Olympics starting.  We watched clips of different sports to learn what they are.  We all thought that the Luge and the Skeleton are scary.  Later that day we had our Scottish taster feast.  We had people from home come and join us in our art activities and trying Scottish food.  We all loved trying different Scottish foods.
