This week Primary 1 have been learning a lot of new things.
In sounds we have been practicing the sounds we have learnt so far. The main focus was blending them together to make words. We used Lego which had words written on them and used single sounds to make them and to make sure we understood the words we matched them to pictures.
Also, Cali said “we used bottle tops with sounds written on and picture cards to make words which we all loved creating.”
Jorgie explained “With Miss Brown, we were reading magic words that appeared from envelopes. This was fun.”
Another activity was playing sound dominoes. We read the word and matched to pictures in domino format.
In our writing this week we were learning about characters in stories and describing them. We talked about what they may look like and how different characters look different. We used Katie Morag as our stimulus and which characters we have been introduced to so far.
In our Vibrant Vocabulary we used the stimulus Shifty McGrifty and Slippery Sam. The words we enjoyed learning this week were beamed, blushed, gloomy, grumbled and sniggered. We created pictures of the main character and played pass the parcel to practice our understanding of these words.
In PE, we continued to learn Scottish Dancing but this week we focused on Highland Dancing. Andrew said “we used meter sticks as swords to practice Highland dancing.”
In Maths we were to continue to learn about money. Ava said “we were being shop keepers this week by using money to buy things from others in the class.”
This week Primary 1 were also learning the process of number talks. Lucy C said “we were learning to tell the class how we saw a dot pattern. What we saw first to add the dots together.”
Primary 1 also spent time outside for outdoor learning this week. “We were creating patterns by rubbing crayons over the bark of the trees”, Lucy H said.
At the beginning of this week we had a shared start, Primary 1 were excited to show everyone what they had been learning in their sounds and their maths.
Another celebration this week was a wider achievement success. Primary 1 were happy that Ava had achieved her 1 level in Gymnastics and she bought in her certificate and badge to show us. Well done Ava.
