Primary 1 update

Primary 1 have been busy this week.

In sounds we learnt two new ones, l and r.  Children were very good at these as they recognised words and names that had those letters in them.  For ‘l’ we created lions which were fantastic.

In writing, we used Katie Morag and her Two Grandmothers as a stimulus and wrote about our Grannies or someone special at home.

This week we began to learn basic sayings in French.  We learnt hoe to say hello and my name is.  We also play Jacques a dit (Simon says) which all the children love.

We have been learning more about money, trying to add small amounts together.

We have been further learning our sense of number and will continue this to help us with our early addition and subtraction.

In health and wellbeing we are discussing about how we should be kind to others in school.  We are further learning Scottish Country dancing by learning to move to a beat of 8.

We are concentrating on our listening skills so we listened to animal noises which we had to follow like a dot to dot to make a picture.

As part of our topic Katie Morag and Scotland we created and the Island of Struay and will continue to add to this.  We have been learning about what an island is and what we may like or not like about living on an island.

As it was Burns day this week, our vibrant vocabulary book was about a Scottish Highland Cow.  It was Hairy Hettie.  Our words were hibernate, scurried, bellowed, burrowed and fluttered.  The children loved these words and were fantastic at understanding what the words mean.

And finally a big well done to Andrew and all other children who recited their poems in front of the school and people from home.  It is not easy to stand up and do that but you all did fantastic.  Also Andrew you looked very smart and Miss Brown and Mrs Robertson are very proud of you.
