A Busy Festive Week in Primary 1

It has been a busy and exciting week in Primary 1.

We had a strange visitor in class this week, we came back into class to find a surprise.  We thought that the mystery footprints were from a reindeer.  Also there was a letter from Santa asking us for help to find Comet his reindeer who was lost.  We used this for our writing this week and wrote about all the clues that we found in class that may have been Comet.

We have been looking at blending our sounds to make words and also looking at our tricky words which cannot be sounded out.  We need to take a picture of these and try to remember them in our heads.  We have been doing activities that include matching the letters to create the words.

This week we had our vibrant vocabulary.  It was using the book ‘The Three Bears and the Great Big Storm’.  We really enjoyed this book and our new sophisticated words.  These were: creaked, echoed, shivered, shuddered and wailing.

Also in writing,  we used the story The Bear and the Great Storm to write about wild weather that we have experienced. Some of us recalled hearing crackling thunder and twisty wind!

In Maths, we have been continuing to learn about symmetry.  This week was using shapes in our symmetry.  Also, we continued our learning about repeating patterns in a Christmas context! We made our own set of Christmas lights using paint and tried to create a repeating pattern.

On Wednesday it was our Christmas party and we had a special visit from Santa which we all were excited for.  At our party we danced, played games and ate some goodies.  We all loved our fabulous hats and everyone looked fabulous in the hats they made.

We had our buddies down on Friday which we love.  They were helping us to do maths and our sounds.  We all really enjoyed this.

In class, we have had visitors up to mischief.  We have Tinsel and Jingle, the elves which help us in our learning as they go to different areas in class each day but also can get up to mischief.

Just a reminder, Monday afternoon at 2.15pm is the infant (primary 1-3) craft afternoon.  All parents, carers or family are welcome to come and make some Christmas crafts with the children.
