P2/1 update

It has been a busy two weeks in P2/1 as the class and I have all been getting to know each other.

Many of us have started using the new phonics reading books that have recently arrived in class and we are learning to develop our fluency and confidence in reading.  We also started our Vibrant Vocabulary work by looking at the book ‘Pumpkin Soup’ complete with our own pot of pumpkin soup to investigate and last week we looked at a fireworks story called ‘Sparks in the Sky.’  We have been writing personal stories over the last two weeks learning to sound out our new words and use connectives.  We have also been spelling words in different ways including whiteboards, sticks, leaves and wiki sticks.

In maths we have been learning to count in 10s and 2s and doing lots of practice counting out objects up to 10.  We have also been learning to collect information and make it into a graphs and we started with a big birthday bar graph for the whole class.

In RME the children were learning about firework safety and also Remembrance Sunday.  They used cotton buds to paint beautiful poppy pictures.  We have also been learning about the difference between needs and wants and our rights.
