This week we have been celebrating Maths Week Scotland in the classroom with a variety of different activities. Thank you to the parents/carers who came along and joined us for Maths With Munchies and joined in with our shared start. We had a visit from Mr Boyle, a maths teacher at Broxburn Academy who got us to solve some problems involving offers from supermarkets. On Thursday, Mr Barrie from our Parent Staff Council gave up his time to come and talk to us about how he uses Maths in his job. We also watched a TED Talks video about a Mathemagician who was able to find the square roots of lots of different numbers. We have also continued with developing our mental maths strategies and Emma C was our pupil of the week for being able to multiply a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number mentally. Well done!
The class all really enjoyed our active spelling stations this week – especially the foam station. This helps us learn our weekly words in an active and fun way. In writing, we wrote a letter from Stanley to his Mum based on our class novel ‘Holes’. We had to use relevant information from the novel and it has shown Mrs Weir who has been listening carefully to the story.
Thank you to the parents/carers who came along to Meet The Teacher. It was great to see lots of adults engaging with the children about their aspirations. We talked lots about the different aspirations which we have for the future including passing our driving test, diving in the Great Barrier Reef, visiting France, going to Space and living in a cottage. What a lot of different ideas!
Panto auditions begin next week for some of the children.
Remember that school is closed on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th September. Have a lovely weekend. 🙂
