This week in Numeracy the class have been busy consolidating our work on written addition using carrying. We have also moved onto revising written subtraction which involves borrowing. Some of the class found this quite tricky but by the end of the week they have become experts. I have also been impressed with the class during our first week of trying Number Talks and talking about our mental maths strategies. Keep working hard on learning those times tables too!
In Literacy we have learned about the ‘Reading Keys’ and how we are going to be using these alongside our reading throughout the year. We discussed Bloom’s reading tasks and watched a short video to help us understand this. We are all enjoying our class novel ‘Holes’ and have been making predictions about what is going to happen to the main character Stanley. Look out for reading books and homework coming home on Monday!
We also had a visit from our ‘brain coach’ Mr Turnbull on Wednesday. He told us a story about a boy who was bullied at school and managed to turn into a famous doctor. We discussed a range of emotions and Mr Turnbull was impressed with our answers. We were introduced to glitter jars which when we shake shows our brains when they are angry and confused and when we calm down and breathe the glitter jar does too.
On Friday morning, P7 helped their P1 buddies and P6 helped Primary 2 with their letter formation and reading stories. I was very impressed with the whole class at how well they helped out.
A reminder that P.E. kit must be brought on a Wednesday and Thursday.
