After our first full week in P7, the words that have come to mind have been: busy, different, hard-working and fun – amongst many others.
Literacy
We have started our class novel on Divided City and we are enjoying the story so far. We have acted our drama scenes and discussed discrimination because of race, gender and ethnicity. We are using Bloom’s questions to further our understanding of the text. We were able to express our creative talents in our first story writing lesson. We looked at the four aspects of VCOP and we are trying to incorporate this into our work.
Numeracy
We have revised written subtraction methods this week and some of us are working on tricky word problems that involve multiple calculations. To help with our mental maths, we have started Number Talks. These sessions allow us to discuss strategies to solve a problem rather than being the first to answer. This gives more of us some confidence to answer and complete our work.
Health and Wellbeing
We were lucky to have a workshop on mindfulness with Mr Turnbull where we looked at controlling our emotions. In class we have worked on our class charter and learning pit, as well as our aspirations for the future.
We have been looking at fitness and stamina for P.E. and tried to complete a mile circuit round the school – either walking, jogging or running – and everyone managed well. We will continue to work on stamina and fitness this term as well as team games.
Looking Ahead
Next week we have our class photos on Tuesday, Travelling by Tuba performance on Wednesday, and our trip to the Risk Factory on Thursday. Its going to be a busy week!
