It’s Time for Summer!
Need some inspiration for outdoor fun this summer holiday? Here’s ten of our favourite things to do outdoors to get you started.
1. Visit One of Scotland’s Award Beaches
Scotland’s Beach Awards celebrate clean, well managed and sustainable beaches making sure our coastline is good for both wildlife and for us to visit. Find an Awarded Beach near you.
2. Do a 2 Minute Cleanup
Got two minutes? Take a bag and look for litter on your way to the park or walking the dog.  Pick it up and bag it, then recycle or bin it. Help us to keep Scotland beautiful! Get a cool #2MinuteCleanUp bag.
3. Visit a Green Flag Award Park
The Green Flag Award recognises the best parks and green spaces across Scotland to ensure everybody has access to quality green spaces to play in. Find a Green Flag park near you
4. Have a One Planet Picnic
A One Planet Picnic is a picnic that is good for you and good for the planet. Why not make something delicious and eat outside with friends? Register your picnic here and enter this year’s prize draw.
5. Do the Scottish Seashell Survey
The Scottish Seashell Survey is a fun way to learn about the natural world while helping to collect useful information about the creatures that live around our coasts. Next time you’re at the beach, find some seashells!
6. Make Your Voice Heard
Got something to say about environmental issues? Send us your photo, video or article and we’ll make sure you’re heard. Entries from those aged 11-21 can enter Young Reporters Scotland. Younger than 11? We still want to hear from you for our website or newsletter. Be heard.
7. Plant a Garden for Bees
Bees need our help and the easiest way to help bees is to plant flowers they like. Fill out the form and we will send a pack of pollinator-friendly flower seeds and a guide booklet your way – get some seeds.
8. Make Something Tasty
Try some tried and true recipes sent in by pupils for One Planet Picnic. There’s oatcakes from Alford PS, soups, Kirn Primary’s cress sandwiches, Lochside Primary’s raspberry meringue nests and more. Do you have a favourite recipe to share? Send it in!
9. Do an OPAL Survey
Do you know what bugs are living near you? Take part in Bugs Count and discover the incredible variety of invertebrates that make their homes around us. Find as many bugs as you can.
10. Join the Great Nurdle Hunt
Nurdles are small plastic pellets about the size of a lentil. Spills and mishandling mean they end up at sea and on our beaches. Birds and fish mistake nurdles for food. We can help end nurdle pollution by cleaning them up when we find them. Found nurdles? Let FIDRA know where.
