Mindset

This week P3 have been learning all about the differences between Fixed and Growth Mindsets. How a fixed mindset can limit your learning – and is indicated by phrases such as “I cant do it” and “It’s too difficult”, and not wanting to make mistakes. This is contrasted with a Growth Mindset which can help you develop and hopefully improve your learning – indicated by phrases such as “I cant do it … yet” and  understanding how making mistakes is a great way to learn.

World Book Day

As part of the activities for World Book Day, P3 have been listening to Shakespeare stories –  Hamlet, and Macbeth. They enjoyed the excitement (and all the gory parts!) of the stories and were also amazed to learn that many of our common every-day phrases were originally coined by Shakespeare, such as –

“Break the ice”

“Dead as a doornail”

“For goodness sake”

“Foregone conclusion”

“Heart of Gold”

“Wild goose chase”

and the class were especially amazed to hear that he also coined this phrase-

“Knock knock! Who’s there?”!

On world book day it was great to see so many of the class dress up as their favourite book character. This gave us the opportunity to “hot seat” these characters, so they could talk about themselves (as that character) and answer lots of questions from the rest of the class.
