Expressive Arts Open Morning

We had an exciting start to our short week in P4/3. P4 pupils were busy rehearsing for their show next week and our P3s joined in with Mr. Robertson’s class to learn the ukulele!

In Literacy, we have been focusing on using a variety of different connectives/conjunctions in our sentences. We learned that connectives help to make our writing more interesting as they connect two sentences together. We will try to use some of the connectives in our writing in future.

It was great to see some of our parents at our Open Morning today. We had great fun taking part in expressive arts activities relating to our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory topic with Mrs. Robertson. Here are some photographs of the activities below.

Art & Design

We had to use a variety of building materials to create Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. We included some of the rooms that we have read about in the novel and we added our own ideas too!

We used tissue paper to create some of Mr. Wonka’s colourful lollipops. We had to carefully scrunch the paper and stick it onto our templates. It’s great to see how differently we all designed our lollipops.

Music

In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the Oompa Loompas always sing a funny song when one of the characters meets a sticky end. We created our own songs about one of the four main characters. The Oompa Loompa’s songs always ryhme so we tried hard to make our songs rhyme too! Here are some extracts of the songs from the novel.

“Augustus Gloop…”

“Augustus Gloop! Augustus Gloop!
The great big greedy nincompoop!
How long could we allow this beast
To gorge and guzzle, feed and feast
On everything he wanted to?
Great Scott! It simply wouldn’t do!

“Veruca Salt…”

“Veruca Salt, the little brute,
Has just gone down the garbage chute,
(And as we very rightly thought
That in a case like this we ought
To see the thing completely through,
We’ve polished off her parents, too.)

Drama

We had to choose one of the characters in the story and be interviewed about our experiences inside the chocolate factory. The interviewer had to try hard to ask open questions and not closed questions with yes or no answers. We filmed our interviews on our class IPad and hope to view them soon!20170217_112937
