This week we’ve been very busy working on our show! The props and scenery are well underway, and we are adding some choreography to our songs. Most people know all their words now, so we are focusing on our acting so that you all enjoy our performance. It’s getting close!
However, we’ve managed to fit in lots of learning, too! In maths, the Rulers have been looking at the short written method for multiplication. We’re practising multiplying two-digit numbers by a one-digit number, but will be ready to move on to three-digit numbers soon. The Calculators have been developing their understanding of place value and how this changes when a number is multiplied by 10, 100 and 1000 – it’s not just adding on zeros!!! We’re really getting the hang of this, and our next step will be extending our knowledge to include division. The Cubes have been working on the speed and accuracy of recall in their times tables. This is something we are all getting better at. In mental maths, we continue to work on discussing and comparing our strategies.
In language, we have been looking at the poetry of Grace Nichols and how she uses language to create imagery. The focus this week was on similes and metaphors. Do you know the difference between the two? P5 do! Why don’t you ask them to give you examples? We wrote our own poems using similes and metaphors to describe the sun or the moon. In writing, we continued with our entries for the 500 Word competition. Some of our ideas are very imaginative!
With Mrs McCann, we practised our numbers in french. We really enjoyed playing hide-and-seek with Camembear and number football – merci, Madame McCann!
We also enjoyed our second session of Taiko drumming! So, after all that, I think we deserve a few days off! Have a great holiday – see you on Wednesday!
