A new week and a new Topic!

The children have learned all there is to learn about Scotland, so now is the time for a new Topic! P2/1 will be learning about Castles! Next week, we will be thinking about what we think castles look like and we will also be looking at the features of a castle(inside and out). The children will be drawing some detailed pictures and using our Writing skills to label what we have drawn.

In Maths, we move on to Subtraction. Primary 2 will be revising numbers to 20 formation and them subtracting within 20 using number lines, other materials and working on metal maths skills. Primary 1 will be subtracting within 10. Some children will be working on accurate counting and formation of numbers t0 10. The class successfully took part in a little written Maths assessment all about money and we used this to discuss what we found easy and difficult. The children also took part in a  more active money assessment, where they had to go to Mrs Stenhouses’ shop and buy something using the correct change!

In Phonics, the children will be learning 2 new sounds and these will be sent home in their Reading bags along with their new tricky words and their Reading for the week. Please can you ensure that your child brings their Reading bag in to school everyday and check their Reading record to see which pages they have to read for homework as it may not always be the whole book!

I was very impressed with the rolls sequences the children performed in gym. The children put the rolls they had learned in previous weeks, to create a 4 roll sequence! Next, our focus will be on balance. In Outdoor P.E. we will continue with football skills and will be focusing on control of the ball when dribbling.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Stenhouse
