As our space topic continues, Primary 2 has discovered more about some famous astronauts, including Tim Peake, a British astronaut who recently spent some time in the International Space Station. The children have also learned about the main parts of a rocket, and used that knowledge to design their own. We plan to build them on Monday, so feel free to bring in some recyclables from home to help construct the model!
In maths, the children are doing very well with their multiplication. We have been practising using cubes and counters to make equal groups, and writing multiplication sums. As one of the children pointed out to me this week, “It’s just adding!” Yes, we are learning that multiplication is really just repeated addition, and we are finding quick and efficient ways of working out the total, such as counting in 2s and 5s.
In writing, the children have been creating some poetry. We started with acrostic poems about space. Hopefully you should have spotted the three poems in your child’s Home Learning Jotter. Please help them to learn one of those three poems for a friendly poetry competition in school.
As usual, the children are working hard during physical education lessons. We did something new this week when we tried some yoga. We also began some circuits, practising a variety of activities including skipping ropes, throwing a beanbag into a hoop, balancing on one foot, star jumps, and more. It’s no wonder that our pulse felt nice and fast at the end of the lesson!
Everyone worked very hard this week!
