Happy New Year! Happy New Term!

Welcome back!  On Wednesday we were able to take time to hear everyone’s holiday news – it sounds as though everyone had a great time.  I hope you’re all refreshed and ready to learn!

In maths, we have continued to work with symmetry.  We have been completing symmetrical shapes as well as finding out how many lines of symmetry different shapes and patterns have.  We have been really successful with this!

In writing, we wrote a report reflecting on our achievements in 2016 and thinking about our goals for 2017.  We thought about what we could achieve in our learning, at home with our family and in our interests/hobbies.  We chose one goal in particular we wished to achieve by the end of P5 and thought carefully about the different steps we would need to take to reach our goal.  We also thought about how we would know whether we have achieved it.  We also had another practice at writing ISPACE sentences.  We are getting really good at this now, and it will help us use more interesting sentence openers in all our writing.  Why don’t you ask us what each letter in ISPACE stands for?

In art, we will be looking at the work of some different artists.  This week we looked at an Austrian artist called Gustav Klimt.  We focused on a piece called ‘The Tree of Life’ and used this as inspiration for our own art.  We learned that he used symbolism in his art as well as real gold leaf.

In PE, we had a fun session and played thunderball!  It was very noisy and lots of fun!  We all put in a great effort and everybody stuck by the rules which made it even more enjoyable.

Today we have two letters coming home.  One from P6 who are holding a fund-raising Ceilidh/Disco and another letting you know about an exciting opportunity for P5 this term!  Our Voice Beats workshops start on 19th January, when the whole school will be treated to a performance by the Mugen Taiko Dojo.  P5 will then work with the Dojo over the next 8 weeks, building up to an exciting performance on the 30th March!

We also found out that we can audition for our show next week!  The lines to practise for Monday are:

Och aye, the news!

Good afternoon and welcome.

I’m Jock McTavish and this is Jill McHamish.

We are looking forward to starting work on the show – and have been finding out about all the different roles available (not just performing!).

Have a great weekend!
