P4/3 have been working hard again this week. They have been working on their ‘reading passports’ for the First Ministers Reading Challenge. This challenge has been set for all students from P4 and above (we have squeezed in our P3’s as well: ssshhhhh… don’t tell the First Minister!!!) with the aim to read as many books as they can and instil the love and importance of reading to all children. The class were given passports to note down their favourite types of books, where their reading takes them when they read and they have set some challenges for themselves as well.
Some of the challenges the class have set for themselves include:
- going to the library to choose some books (get in quick though as the library is relocating soon!). For more information you can visit: http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/article/2234/Broxburn-Library
- reading non-fiction books
- reading to myself
- reading aloud to others
- recommending books to others
- reading every day
They have got LOADS of time to read – the challenge continues until May next year. Each time a pupil finishes a book, they record it in their reading passport and create a mini review that they can share with others. There is a suggested booklist (this is not compulsory, pupils can read anything they like), which you can find here:

Good luck P4/3 and happy reading!!!
