A tale of murder most horrid…!

We had a great time listening to the foul and gory tale of Macbeth today!  It was a one man show, and we were really impressed by how little tricks (such as wearing a scarf in a different way) allowed the story-teller to quickly change characters.  The tale told us of how Macbeth murdered kindly old King Duncan in his bed, and how Lady Macbeth helped frame his guards for the murder, so that they could take the crown.  There were many more wicked murders, ghosts, witches and dealings with the devil – all in one story!  At the end, some of us were able to take part in some activities which we were all very enthusiastic about.  The storyteller also made sure to tell us the true story of Macbeth, which was much less murderous!  We found out that there was a King Duncan and that Macbeth was also real.  But that’s where the historical facts end really!  Shakespeare’s version was written for the stage and didn’t reflect real life.  King Duncan wasn’t old or kind, and he wasn’t even murdered!  He was a tyrant who died in battle.  Macbeth wasn’t a baddie – he ruled for 20 years and was in fact a peaceful king.  We would love another visit from Andy to tell us another tale (he said his favourite was Tam O’Shanter – which Miss Thomson loves too!)

We’ve been in a Christmas mood this week – and everyone should now have their Cauliflower Card sample home with them.  Please let us know if it hasn’t arrived safely!  Some busy workers even managed to make two designs to choose from.

In science this week, we talked about life processes and we are learning all about classifying living things.  We are using two techniques to help us do this – Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams.  We’ll be practising this more next week.

Next week, on Monday, we are looking forward to a visit from the PDSA.  A letter was sent home about this, but just a reminder that the PDSA will be holding a ‘pocket money’ stall at break-time so, if the children wish to, they can bring in a little money to spend.

I hope you have all have lovely weekend!
