This week we have been continuing to explore light, dark and time. We have been using the torches in the garden to create light when it’s dark and have been fact finding to see what time the sun sets and rises in Scotland.

Some of the children have noticed the change in the cold weather and have been curious to use our senses to touch and feel the ice that has formed in the garden. We had a discussion about what ice is before it freezes and why it freezes.

This week the children have been very excited talking about Santa and the Elf’s coming soon. We have been promoting our mark making and writing skills by writing our letters to Santa and posting them in our post box.

This week to celebrate Halloween, we had the opportunity to take part in a variety of Halloween themed activities throughout the nursery. Some of the children took a walk to our lock Aldi to buy some pumpkins for our nursery. We used our senses to explore different textures to make spells with gluck and we displayed great fine motor skills using the hammer and nails on the pumpkins. We had some Halloween dancing to move our bodies and stay active, apple dooking and we had the opportunity to cut and scoop out our pumpkins.

It was great to see all children’s costumes that dressed up throughout the week!

Happy Halloween!

The children have been learning about the season, Autumn. We have had lots of discussions on what happens in Autumn and what types of animals we might see in our local community. The children have been keen to create their own animals including hedgehogs and foxes using their own hands and feet.

We have collected some of the leaves that have fallen from the trees in our garden to use inside, using our imaginations to create different gluing’s.
