{"id":21872,"date":"2020-10-30T17:40:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-30T17:40:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/eastcalderprimary\/?p=21872"},"modified":"2020-10-30T17:40:57","modified_gmt":"2020-10-30T17:40:57","slug":"primary-2-1-learning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/eastcalderprimary\/2020\/10\/30\/primary-2-1-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"Primary 2\/1 Learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Primary 2\/1 have been working very hard since returning from our October break.\u00a0 Here are examples of a few things they\u2019ve been up to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Primary 1 have started their third set of sounds and learned \u2018g\u2019 and \u2018o\u2019 this week (\u2018o\u2019 is sounded as in \u2018on and off\u2019).\u00a0 Primary 1s are enjoying using their bank of sounds to create words too and we had a lot of fun doing this together. Primary 2 have been learning the sounds \u2018<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem\">ai\u00a0\u00a0 ay\u00a0\u00a0 a_e\u2019<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\"> this week and worked hard on their activities around this including making a table of words for each sound.\u00a0 They are also enjoying their twice weekly reading group sessions where they have the opportunity to think about prediction as well as fluency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/eastcalderprimary\/files\/2020\/10\/P2-Spelling-ai-and-ay-26th-October-20201.docx\">P2 Spelling ai and ay 26th October 2020<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These are the words we used for this week&#8217;s sounds.\u00a0 These can be practised at home too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>French\u00a0 \u00a0 on\/revised Greetings this week.\u00a0 We have the help of a French puppet called Tibo to liven up the lessons!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numeracy\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong>Primary 1 and Primary 2 have enjoyed their separate Number Talks activities in the mornings.\u00a0 This is a warm-up numeracy activity which follows a set of rules to encourage mental maths strategy thinking and uses discreet hand signals in order that students are not distracted by others putting their hands up.\u00a0 We also discuss any mistakes in a positive manner as we can use these to deepen our understanding of numbers.\u00a0 Primary 2s are also learning about addition strategies and understanding number sequences where we practised counting in 10s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 learn about Water and how this can change from one form to another.\u00a0 On Thursday the children had an outdoor lesson using a nature walk around the school playground to look for examples of where water is found and any examples of this changing form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Wellbeing\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 managing our emotions.\u00a0 This is called Zones of Regulation and the children can choose from four coloured zones to put their name in.\u00a0 We have Green for happy\/calm, Yellow for worried\/frustrated, Blue for sad\/sick\/bored and Red for anger\/being out of control.\u00a0 We will continue to work more on our understanding of this and what strategies we can use to self-regulate
