{"id":19158,"date":"2019-12-05T12:05:58","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T12:05:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/eastcalderprimary\/?p=19158"},"modified":"2019-12-05T12:05:58","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T12:05:58","slug":"message-from-nhs-lothian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/wl\/eastcalderprimary\/2019\/12\/05\/message-from-nhs-lothian\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from NHS Lothian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Winter 2019\/20 Respiratory Illness<\/strong><br \/>\nNHS Lothian have seen a large number of respiratory outbreaks in nurseries and schools in the past few weeks.<br \/>\nThe main symptoms being reported include:<br \/>\n&#8211; Fever<br \/>\n&#8211; Cough<br \/>\n&#8211; Sore throat<br \/>\n&#8211; Muscle aches<br \/>\n&#8211; Sore tummy<br \/>\n&#8211; Cold\/Flu like symptoms<br \/>\n&#8211; headache<br \/>\nThese symptoms are consistent with respiratory viral illnesses such as the common cold, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza.<br \/>\nRespiratory viruses are spread by breathing in droplets produced when a person coughs or sneezes. You can also catch the virus by touching the surfaces that the droplets have landed on if you pick up the virus on your hands and then touch your nose or mouth.<br \/>\n<strong>Key advice for parents and carers:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the home the risk of catching or spreading flu\/cold like illness can be reduced by:<br \/>\n\u2022 Regular hand washing with liquid soap and running water<br \/>\n\u2022 Covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing<br \/>\n\u2022 Using a disposable paper tissue, disposed off immediately after use.<br \/>\n\u2022 You can teach your child to sneeze into the \u2018crook\u2019 of their arm rather than their hands, if they don\u2019t have a tissue. https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mQINuSTP1jI<br \/>\n\u2022 Good general cleaning of surface that everyone touches often e.g. TV remote, light switches, door handles, toilet flushes and tap heads.<br \/>\n\u2022 https:\/\/www.nhsinform.scot\/illnesses-and-conditions\/infections-and-poisoning\/common-cold<br \/>\n\u2022 https:\/\/www.nhsinform.scot\/illnesses-and-conditions\/infections-and-poisoning\/flu<br \/>\nChildren should not return to school until completely well and 48 hours after symptoms have ceased.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Winter 2019\/20 Respiratory Illness NHS Lothian have seen a large number of respiratory outbreaks in nurseries and schools in the past few weeks.
