Another Snow Day!

Wow, what a lot of snow! Have you ever seen so much snow at home before? I hope you have all been having fun playing out in it and remembering to wrap up nice and warm.  Don’t forget you can email photos or videos to the email address in the previous Groupcall sent out and they can be added onto the blog too.  Have you seen the photos from yesterday? Just scroll down the page for a look and click on the blue links to see Evie’s pirate treasure video and Mrs. Stewarts dog Toni having fun in the snow.

Did you manage to do any of yesterdays activities? Why not try them today if you didn’t get to yesterday? Here are a few more ideas to try.

  1. Make a restaurant for the birds! Clear a little snow and put food out and watch to see if any come to eat.
  2. Draw a picture of you playing in the snow that we can add to the floorbook in nursery.
  3. Ask a grown up to help you write 3 things you would like to see in our nursery garden. Don’t forget to bring your list with you to nursery, grown ups you could write your own 3 item list too please! (we like to include everyone!)
  4. For the more adventurous of you… try to build an igloo!
  5. Read a bedtime story, since we missed out on our Big Bedtime Read launch event (this will be rescheduled!)

Have fun and stay cosy! Don’t forget to send your photos and videos, thank you.

Mrs Stewart’s Dog

Mrs Stewart has enjoyed her snow day with Toni her dog, going on lots of walks.

Toni loves the snow and was playing hide and seek! However he did get a little grumpy when his ball disappeared into the snow!

Snow Day Activities

Good morning everyone!

Since we can’t be with you in nursery today this is the next best thing! The staff observed lots of fun learning this week outdoors that was carried forward indoors too.  Many of the children were showing an interest in maps and treasure at the park and woods.  In the long awaited nursery garden they used the climbing frame as a pirate ship!

Here are a few activities you could try at home to keep busy both outdoors and indoors.

1. Make your own pirate treasure using tinfoil and food packaging.

2. Draw a treasure map.

3. Use a stick outside to mark an X in the snow to show where the treasure is.

4. If you go sledging pretend you’re on a pirate ship!

5. Build a snow-pirate!

6. Write your name in the snow with a stick.

If you do make anything please bring it in to share with us. If you want to take photos and send them to us we can share them on the blog too. Have fun and stay warm!

Kirkton Park

Today we followed the path into Kirkton Park during Forest Fun.

“Its right next to my park” Aimee.

As you can see from the video everyone had a great time exploring the park land, climbing on trees, hunting for treasure and telling stories in the Den.

Hope you enjoy!

Den Day

On Monday the 19th we headed to the woodland.  Now that the children are becoming more confident in using the environment and risk assessing independently we are able to start adding more exciting activities normal kept for indoors, outdoors!

To keep us dry we had to build a den!

Here is a short video which documents our learning!

The Swing

We have now enjoyed 4 weeks of Forest Fun!!

We are becoming more confident outside and are developing our independence especially in relation to risk assessing and  dressing skills.

Bookbug Visit!

The Wednesday children were very excited to meet the

“actual real bookbug” Martha

The children enjoyed listening to a story ‘The Crocodile Who Was Afraid Of Water’ before singing some of their favorite nursery rhythms and songs hoping that the Bookbug would hear and come to see them.

They were not disappointed, not only did he visit he also left a gift for the Anti-Preschoolers in the form of an EXPLORER BAG (Pre-school children will have received theirs last year) .

The Scottish book trust aim to inspire young readers, offing explorer bags to 3 year olds and also run free sessions within local libraries and community centers across Scotland (including our own community wing in Boghall).

These sessions are great fun and full of stories, songs and rhyme which support the development of speech, confidence, movement and co-ordination skills.

For more information please go to scottishbooktrust.com/localbookbugsessions
