We were very excited today to join the boys and girls from the School in the Dining Hall for lunch. For the past few weeks, we have been easing ourselves in by enjoying our lunch near everybody from the stage. It was so nice today to sit with everyone in the big hall and we are looking forward to seeing them again tomorrow.

The nursery children thoroughly enjoyed their first trip to the woods for forest fun.

When we arrived at the woods, we talked about risk assessing and the children were able to identify risks in the forest area before and during their play.  They identified possible risks in the woods such as glass & litter and we discussed how to stay safe such as staying within the group and within boundaries.

We then read the story ‘Not a Stick’ by Antoinette Portis to inspire the children to use their imagination and creativity and turn ‘everyday’ objects into something imaginative.  The children found a variety of different sized sticks and used them to create different games and for different purposes such as fishing and digging, which they then shared within the group.  During our story, we enjoyed a snack and hot chocolate.

Last week the children at Boghall Nursery enjoyed the experience of learning and playing in the snow! We built our very own snowman, we used paint in spray bottles to make marks in the snow, we made snow angels and had great fun climbing up and sliding down the hill.

What a wonderful week we had playing in the snow!

Wow, what an amazingly busy morning!!

We are all thrilled that so many of you could take the time out to come this morning and hope you all enjoyed our Festive Friday.

After our stay and play it was requested that there be more opportunities for Parents to meet one another and we couldn’t help but add some Christmas Cheer into the mix!!

On the last head count we had 24 nursery children and almost 56 adults, all within nursery playing and engaged in activities, what a fabulous turn out!!

I think you will all agree that the children sang amazingly well and of course the staff didn’t do too badly either!

We will get a photo out to all who attended next week, but to keep you going here are a few of the Children and their families enjoying themselves this morning!!

Christmas is always a really busy time of year in the nursery:

We have been out and about within the community acting out the story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff, we took out masks down to the park and had great fun using the buried tunnel and mound to act out the story!

We have been working on our singing voices for before the Nativity and some of the children had the opportunity to sing on the school stage during all together time on Wednesday, the school children were fantastic listeners and the nursery children really enjoyed performing.  We hope everyone will enjoy listening to us on the 15^th, we are really looking forward to it!!

Being the month of December we are focusing on Caring and Kindness within the nursery, last week the children were asked “Who has been kind to us, or helped us in our Nursery?”  Staff noted the responses and our Kindness Advent Calendar started on Monday!

We took lots of time thinking of nice things we could make, bake and design to show our appreciation for people who have helped us! The children will all take turns to deliver a Kindness gesture and on Monday we began with the Community wing!! We are grateful for all the help they gave the nursery at the beginning of its journey hosting parents meetings and for continuing to allow us to share their play area.

Tuesday we said thanks to the Janitors, Drew, Tom and Diane!  They fix our toys for us and they help the ladies move heavy furniture, they also make sure the doors are unlocked so we can play in nursery.

On Wednesday it was the turn of Miss Potter and Primary 6, we really enjoy them coming to visit us in the nursery and enjoy the stories they read us in the library.  All the children look forward to them knocking on the door and we know they loved the Crispy Cakes we made them!

On Thursday we said Thank you too Mrs Grey she comes and presents NYCOS to our children and staff.  We are thankful for her taking time to teach us new songs and games and helping us develop our ability to hear and follow rhythm and beat.

We have been busy making lots of nice gifts and cards to be given out as Kindness Advent…. I wonder who will get a visit from Mini Santa’s next week??

 

Its been a busy couple of weeks in the nursery!!

We’re not quite sure where to start!!

“Stay and Play” sessions have been happening over the last fortnight giving Parents/Carers the the opportunity to visit nursery and find out about all the exciting activities the children are involved in.

This was a great success with parents joining in activities and engaging with all the children, we even had the birth of a baby in the hospital, much to the surprise of the Mummy in question!

Parents/Carers were also encouraged to giving feedback on what the nursery are doing well and where we can improve.  There were some truly lovely comments given and some fantastic ideas which have given us food for thought!

There will be a “You said, We did” display arranged so you will be able to see how we aim to take your comments forward.

 

The library opportunity with  Primary 6 is in full swing!   The Primary 6’s take small groups of children to the library to read to them and also helping them to choose a story to share at home.  This is a great opportunity for the children to meet older children within the school and develop relationships with those who will be buddies for our pre-school children attending Boghall as Primary 1 next year.

We are really lucky to have Alison from Caterpillar Music and Mrs Grey from the National Youth Choir of Scotland come and visit us within the nursery both offering great opportunities to join in with singing and games.

Mrs Grey from the National Youth Choir of Scotland visits us on Tuesday and Thursday helping us to develop our circle games, follow rhythm and beat as well as singing together as a group.  Alison from Caterpillar Music will be attending in 6 week blocks moving days as the blocks progress so that all the children have the opportunity to attend sessions.  Alison uses themes,  instruments and fun songs to engage the children with rhythm and beat.

Both opportunities help develop vocabulary and are great fun!

During a walk to Kirkton Park we got a little side tracked by the puddles….

This was a fantastic opportunity to get outside and splash, the children are developing their self help skills by getting ready independently and also dressing themselves once we return to nursery (I don’t think there was a dry sock to be found anywhere!!)

Mrs. Duncan brought her dog Izzy into nursery for a visit.  The children had been joining in imaginary play pretending to be dogs.  Izzy was very well behaved and let the children pet her.  She sniffed around and even found some left over snack that had been dropped on the floor!

In wraparound we have been learning about healthy eating.  Aaron wanted to make some smoothies so we chose strawberry.  They were delicious!

 

 

Today was photo day.  All the children looked very smart and were very well behaved whilst waiting for their turn.  We cant wait to see the final photos.  Well done boys and girls!

We got to choose a very special new friend to come to our nursery! Say hello to Freddy the Teddy, our new Take Home Ted.  Each week someone will take him home.  He will come with his own bag complete with pyjamas and a diary that can be shared with the boys and girls when he returns to nursery.  The children chose Freddy’s name, colour and outfits using the Build-a-Bear website and completed the checkout process.  Now all we have to do is wait for his arrival.  We can’t wait to meet him!
