Primary Six win Nature Camera Competition!

We are pleased to announce that Primary 6 have won the Scottish Natural Heritage Nature Camera competition! Not only did we win our own nature camera, but we also had a lovely day out at the Royal Highland Show to claim our prize!

P6 Jacobite Visitor

To round off their Jacobites topic, Primary 6 had a surprise visit from a real life Jacobite! After recapping the key events of the Jacobite Risings they were challenged to dress each other in a féileadh-mór. They’re probably glad they don’t have to do that every morning!

P2 Fairtrade Friday

Hello P2,

I hope you’re still enjoying your snowy days off! Here is a little fair trade activity that you could do today:

Try to draw out a meal: on a piece of paper or paper plate: using only fair trade products. You could have a fair trade breakfast using fair trade coffee and bananas. Use your imagination to create a breakfast, lunch or dinner, extra points if you manage to draw the fair trade logo. I can’t wait to see them!

Have fun guys!

P6 Fairtrade Friday

Good Morning P6!

I’m sure you’re all getting fed up playing in the snow and are looking forward to getting back to school!

To keep you going until Monday I’ve posted some Fairtrade activities below:

– Write a Fairtrade recipe. Research some Fairtrade products and use them to create a recipe for a Fairtrade meal or snack. Maybe a Fairtrade chocolate cake? Remember your list of ingredients and to write a clear step-by-step method.

-Design a poster to encourage people to buy Fairtrade. Remember a title, picture and key facts – not big paragraphs.

Design a Fairtrade board game. Bring it to school next week to try it out.

The Fairtrade Foundation website has lots of information to help you: https://www.fairtrade.org.uk

See you on Monday P6!

P6 World Book Day Activities

Morning Primary 6!

Happy World Book Day! I’m sure you’re all disappointed about missing out on the Big Bedtime Read event. So, why not have your own? Get those PJs on, get a nice hot drink and get reading. You can get the rest of the house involved too! Share what you’ve been reading with each other and leave a comment here with a book to recommend to others.

Why not create something new to do with your book? A new front cover? A different ending? Maybe even get the arts and crafts stuff out and make a character, location or scene from your book? Even better, go out and do it in the snow! Don’t forget to take some photos for me.

You could evaluate your book – Why did you like the book? What was your favourite part? What did the author do well (or not so well)? Would you recommend it to others? Write (or even film) a mini book report to share with us next week. You might encourage someone to give your book a go.

Happy Reading P6!

P2 World Book Day Activities

Hello P2,

Happy World Book Day 📚

Here are a couple of activities you could choose to do at home to celebrate.

1. Dress up as your favourite character from a book. Get someone to take your picture and send it to the school. Can’t wait to see who you’re all going to dress up as! Can you guess who I going to dress up as…?

2. Read a book to an audience, it can be your school book or another book of your choosing. You can read it to your friends, parents, siblings or your toys. You could even have a world book day teddy bears picnic 🐻

3. Get everyone involved and put on a play! Act out your favourite bit of a book. If your brave you could show the class in school. Can’t wait to see them and hear all about your world book day! Take some time to enjoy a book with your family and get cosy out of the cold. ⛄️

Have fun!

P2 Snow Day Activities

Here are some quick home learning activities that you can complete at home on your snowy day:

1. Practice your letter formation by either writing out the alphabet in homework jotters, or getting creative with shaving foam or toy cars! Can’t wait to hear all about it.

2. Write a letter to me from home telling me all about what you got up to on your snowy day off. Remember to include: “Dear Ms Balmer” and sign it off with your name. Think about all the things I’ll be looking for; capital letters, full stop, finger spaces. The challenge cup today will be a beautiful picture illustrating your letter.

3. Draw me a snowy picture and hide your spelling words in it. Let’s see if I can find them all:
Dragonfly group- oo
Butterfly group- oi
Ladybirds- ee

4. Skip counting: practice your skip counting backwards and forwards. Try counting in 2’s, 3’s, 5’s, 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s if you can! 😊 Try adding extra challenge and skip every second number.

5. Create your own adding sums using dice (if you have them, if not try playing cards or any other numbers you find around the house). Roll 2 dice and add the numbers in your head. Make it even harder by adding more dice or rolling lots of times.

Have an excellent day P2!
