Keeping Safe Online
Transition to Primary School (Vlog)
We would like to thank every primary 6 pupil from St Mary’s Primary School for visting nursery each week and being so enthusiastic with our children about their transition to primary school. The P6 pupils used our GoPro camera to ‘vlog’ the experience and helped discuss what they thought would make a good and interesting video, we also discussed the dangers of not giving out their personal information online or to anyone they do not know. Great opportunity for partnership working! 🙂
Skype Story Session.
This afternoon some of us sat down at the ActivPanel to listen to stories being read by other West Lothian pupils via a Skype video call within Glow, fabulously organised by Kirknewton Primary School! We loved hearing the familiar story we created a part of about the giraffe and the talking pancake, a few weeks ago during National Digital Learning Week at BEYC.
BEYC would love to collaborate with West Lothian schools and ELC’s next term to have Skype video calls to share learning with other boys and girls in West Lothian.
Do you have any ideas about what else we could use Skype for? In the past we have met with other pupils to listen to stories, join in sing-a-longs and chat to our P1 friends about school.
We would love to hear your thoughts from home.
Miniature Garden Competition
Who is up for our latest try at home challenge?
Can you design and create a miniature garden at home?
Trays, compost and name labels are available to collect from nursery free of charge.
Please bring your miniature gardens back to nursery no later than Thursday 21st June for all entries to be judged by a special guest at the garden fete.
Good luck!
World Oceans Day at BEYC
Do you know what World Oceans Day is all about?
Please have a look at our blog post and we will help you learn…….
Please come into nursery and have a look in our floor book and also see our Under the Sea Sway for more learning stories.
If you can think of some PLODs (possible lines of development / next steps) please share your ideas in the comments below or write them on our learning wall in the foyer.
BEYC at the Scottish Education Awards 2018
Yesterday was a very special day for Bathgate Early Years Centre, West Lothian and also for Early Learning and Childcare in Scotland!
We were in the finals of the Scottish Education Awards, in the Digital Learning and Teaching category.
Williamston Primary School in Livingston were also flying the flag for West Lothian and were there as finalists in the Learning for Sustainability category.
Unfortunately we are not winners of the award but are ecstatic to have made it into the finals, with Stirling and Tynecastle High Schools.
Congratulations to the winners Tynecastle High School!
Thank you to all of our children, families, hardworking staff and very supportive partners who make our centre such a success and wonderful learning environment!
Also thank you to Education Scotland for organising such a fabulous event and selecting us as finalists!
We left the awards ceremony feeling very proud of Scottish education and were honored to be part of the celebration, recognising excellence in Scottish education.
We have squeezed our journey to the Scottish Education Awards, at the Doubletree Hilton in Glasgow into a 4 minute video clip to share with you all……
Stories Springing to Life via AR Technology
Our work experience pupils from Bathgate Academy are having a very busy week….. Taking part in PEEP, fire pit learning, helping prepare gala day costumes and supporting children in using augmented reality apps to bring learning to life!
We have been exploring the under the sea themed story Starry Eyed Stan by Twinkl today on the Promethean ActivPanel. With help we then used the Twinkl AR app to scan special codes in the story, to see it magically spring to life!
