Making a #digitaldifference at BEYC

National Digital Learning Week 2017 is taking place Monday 15 – Friday 19 May and is about celebrating how digital technology can make a positive difference to learning and teaching. Have a look to see what we have been up to at BEYC and how we celebrate our learning using digital technology.

Chick Cam live in nursery.

We have been looking after some chicken eggs over the last three weeks. The eggs are kept warm in an incubator in the parents area. Earlier this week our chicks began to hatch. We have been keeping a close eye on our baby chicks in the nursery playroom via our online Glow meeting space.  We can watch their every move on our new Promethean Interactive Flat Panel. We will tell you more about this fantastic new piece of digital technology once staff have attended a Promethean training session and we can fully access all the panels functions. Very exciting!

We share the link to our Glow meeting space with the whole Glow community, allowing children and staff across the country to watch online with us.

If you have a Glow account, you can copy this link into your browser to watch at home (Monday- Friday during nursery opening hours).

Skype for Business

We have 7 chicks so far and now we need to think of names for them. Can you help us? Add your suggestions on the post it notes provided next to the chicks in the parents area and pop them in the suggestions box. We will have a draw next week.

This information was updated by the children in the first 3 photographs with the help of Miss Wilkinson. We can now post information, photographs and videos instantly on our Blog using IPads now that the AAL (Anytime, Anywhere Learning) internet connection has been switched on at BEYC. This saves lots of time and children can be much more involved in uploading content to our blog. Please ask Miss Wilkinson or Miss Kelly if you would like to know anymore about this.

Sharing our learning.

Another way way we are making a #digitaldifference at BEYC is by recording our day to day learning experiences and sharing it with children’s families. This afternoon we used our GoPro action camera to make a short film about making Playdough.  The GoPro can be worn over children’s clothing but some children prefer to hold it or have someone else hold it. Again thanks to our new AAL internet connection this video was uploaded to our blog with the child instantly and can be shared with family at home via a QR code sticky label!  Please speak to Miss Wilkinson or Miss Kelly for more information about the GoPro and QR codes.

We would like to share our learning near and far and encourage readers to come to our blog. Please don’t share pictures and videos from our blog but instead share a link to our blog and bring your friends and family to us
