Raising Kids with Confidence

I am writing to advise you of opportunities available for parents to access “Raising Kids with Confidence”.  The 6 session programme engages parents in the school setting to be an active participant in their child’s development.  This course is aimed at all parents (rather than solely targeting groups) and can strengthen collaborations with parents and schools. The course provides an excellent opportunity to further support the work of our school on the National Improvement Framework Parental Engagement driver and would also enhance our approach to Family Learning in line with How Good Is Our School 4.

Growing confidence was originally developed by the City of Edinburgh Council and following a successful pilot in Edinburgh, the programme has become available to other local authorities.

The training is designed to raise awareness and increase parent’s confidence about the importance of promoting positive mental well being in themselves and in their children.  The course offers people an opportunity to learn about the most up to date research and theories on what influences our mental health and well being.  One of the unique points of Growing Confidence is that it does not adopt any one theory or approach and recognises individual difference whilst allowing others to make changes based on the evidence they hear.

The Health Improvement Team and partners are delighted to offer 2 schools in West Lothian the opportunity to have courses for their parents, one course available October/November and one March/April.  This course has all ready been offered in the Longridge/Fauldhouse/Deans/Carmondean/Broxburn/Uphall/Uphall Station/Pumpherston area and evaluations have been very positive.

I have attached the leaflet with the content of the course for your interest above.

We are at this time seeking notes of interest and would ask that notes of interest are made prior to Monday 26thSeptember.
