The National 5 Mathematics course has an externally-assessed exam.<\/p>\n<p>The exam consists of two papers (non-calculator and calculator).<\/p>\n<p>Successful completion of the National 5 Mathematics course may allow entry to the Higher Mathematics course.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif\">EXPRESSIONS AND FORMULA<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-40f6a0e535bf4db38b99\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p>The general aim of this Unit is to develop skills linked to mathematical expressions and formulae. These include the manipulation of abstract terms, the simplification of expressions and the evaluation of formulae. The Outcomes cover aspects of number, algebra, geometry and reasoning.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif\">RELATIONSHIPS<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e675b30903d2bed0a7c1\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p>The general aim of this Unit is to develop skills linked to mathematical relationships. These include solving and manipulating equations, working with graphs and carrying out calculations on the lengths and angles of shapes. The Outcomes cover aspects of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and reasoning.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif\">APPLICATIONS<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-294d462496dfd2c3efe2\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p>The general aim of this Unit is to develop skills linked to applications of mathematics. These include using trigonometry, geometry, number processes and statistics within real life contexts.
