The National 4 Mathematics course has no external exam &#8211; it is entirely internally assessed.<\/p>\n<p>Successful completion of the National 4 Mathematics course may allow entry to the National 5 Mathematics course.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif\">NUMERACY<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-40f6a0e535bf4db38b99\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p>The general aim of this Unit is to develop learners\u2019 numerical and information handling skills to solve straightforward, real-life problems involving number, money, time and measurement. As learners tackle real-life problems, they will decide what numeracy skills to use and how to apply those skills to an appropriate level of accuracy. Learners will also interpret graphical data and use their knowledge and understanding of probability to identify solutions to straightforward real-life problems involving money, time and measurement. Learners will use their solutions to make and explain decisions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif\">EXPRESSIONS AND FORMULAE<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-e675b30903d2bed0a7c1\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p>The general aim of this Unit is to develop skills linked to straightforward mathematical expressions and formulae. These include the manipulation of abstract terms, the simplification of expressions and the evaluation of formulae. The Outcomes cover aspects of algebra, geometry, statistics and reasoning.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif\">RELATIONSHIPS<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"block-294d462496dfd2c3efe2\" class=\"sqs-block html-block sqs-block-html\" data-block-type=\"2\">\n<div class=\"sqs-block-content\">\n<p>The general aim of this Unit is to develop skills linked to straightforward mathematical relationships. These include solving equations, understanding graphs and working with trigonometric ratios.
