Library

The library is the heart of the school, supporting learning and teaching and encouraging pupils to develop into lifelong learners.

The Library provides:

  • Over 9000 books including fiction for all levels and non-fiction to support the curriculum
  • Graphic novels, manga and dyslexia-friendly books
  • A wide range of books, leaflets, and booklets covering health and wellbeing
  • Revision books for seniors preparing for exams
  • Computers
  • Reading lists to encourage students to widen their reading habits.
  • Careers information.
  • Links to West Lothian Public libraries

  • Junior Book Club – Tuesday lunchtime for S1 and S2
  • Senior Book Club – Wednesday lunchtime for S3 – S6

Research has shown that there is a positive relationship between reading frequency, reading enjoyment and attainment. Reading enjoyment has been reported as being more important for children’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic status.

Furthermore, reading for pleasure not only impacts on reading achievement but also increases general knowledge, gives a better understanding of other cultures and increases empathy.
