English is a core subject for all students in S1 to S4. Teachers draw on a range of approaches to meet the needs of students through carefully planned and well paced learning experiences.
The aim is to provide an environment of creativity and innovation, to:
- Provide relevant, real-life and enjoyable contexts which build upon student’s experiences
- Develop student literary skills and knowledge
- Give frequent opportunities to communicate in a wide range of contexts for relevant purposes and real audiences
- Provide opportunities to understand, analyse and evaluate
- Make appropriate use of technology
- Support the development of student decision making
- Provide opportunities for collaborative and individual learning
In the Senior Phase students can seek to gain qualifications in English from National 3 through to Advanced Higher level.
