Due to the church being closed due to heating problems, our annual Christmas Service will be held in St. John’s Hall at 11 am on Friday 18th December. Everyone is welcome to come and join in with our Christmas celebrations.
A selection of activities are listed below in the event of a Snow Day or a School Closure for Primary 1/2 pupils to choose from.
LITERACY AND HANDWRITING
1) Choose a book you enjoy. Draw a picture of your favourite character and add at least one sentence to say why this is your favourite character.
2) Practise writing your daily sounds, common words and letters.
3) Practise writing your letters and joins in the snow with different twigs and sticks.
4) Choose one of your Active Spelling activities and use it to spell words you think of about snowy weather.
NUMBER AND MATHS
1) Make a number line in the snow, writing the numbers with a stick.
2) Add berries, twigs and other things you can find to show ‘How Many’ for each number.
3) Practise counting up and down in twos.
4) Make a two times table from twigs, berries, pebbles and things you can find outside. Use a stick to draw a circle for each group of two.
TOPIC
1) Take your favourite cuddly toy for a number walk and make a list of all the numbers you can find.
2) If you have some modeling materials, make a sledge and take your cuddly toy for a ride in your sledge.
3) Read your cuddly toy a story. Ask it some questions like, What part did you enjoy? Can you remember who the author is? and Which character did you like?
4) Fill a small carton with water and leave it out over night to see if it freezes. In the morning, bring it to school and we can see how long it takes to melt.
Pupils have been busy using their creative talents to produce some Christmas art work. They have been painting, inventing creatures to add to 2016 calendars, making Christmas cards as well as making stars and candy canes to decorate the Christmas tree.
The children in P1 and 2 have been really busy practising their nativity. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday and Wednesday.
