We added a snowstorm during the last art lesson to make our woodland settings. Pupils were more independent as they mixed the ingredients to make and add the snow.

We have had a very busy start to the new term.
In literacy in P5 we have been learning how to add suffixes to words. We have been learning that there are different rules we need to use depending of the ending letters of a word.
In numeracy we have been using learning about time. We have learned how to use timetables and calendars to help us to plan events.
Our topic for learning this term is Animal Kingdom. So far we have learned that vertebrates are animals with a backbone and invertebrates are animals without a backbone. We have learned there are 5 vertebrate groups and have been able to sort animals into these groups according to their characteristics.
We are also planning individual research projects linked to vertebrates. We are using ICT and literacy skills to help us to create our project.
Congratulations to Merryn in P3 who has had the best weekend competing in swimming. She brought home 13 medals in total; 8 golds, 2 silver and 4 bronze.
This also included a special bronze award for being the fastest time closest to Ellie Simmonds at her age!
Well done Merryn! A future Olympian we are sure of!!
On Saturday 5th May Euan in P7 and Angus in P6 played in the National Scottish schools badminton championships. Euan won his place by coming second in the regional qualifier and Euan and Angus won their place by winning the boys doubles in the regional qualifiers last month.
Euan was playing in the singles and doubles, Angus participated in the doubles. Both boys did exceptionally well and were a credit in representing Torphichen PS.
Euan reached the quarter finals in the ‘B’ category singles and the boys together reached the semi finals in the ‘B’ category doubles, a great success particularly as the boys don’t play doubles together regularly.
Well done to both boys, a long day for Euan with over 10 games played. We are extremely proud of the boys’ successes.
Well done to the pupils who took part in the Ultimate Warrior event, last weekend. This involved a 1k, 2k or 3k obstacle course (dependent on their age). From the photo graph below, they all look like they had a great time! Well done.
Please let us know about any success like this and we can share them on our school blog!
