Internet Safety – Streaming Apps

Advice regarding use of Live.ly and Musical.ly streaming apps

Following on from a number of incidents involving children from across the UK, we would like to raise awareness of the above apps and share the following information with parents:

1.       The terms and conditions state all users must be at least 13 years of age.

2.       Users may be exposed to adult content

3.       Live streaming is not fully private even when privacy settings are set to on.

4.       Users are able to search for other users close to their location.

Badminton and Photography Successfor Euan McCartney

On Sunday 5th March Euan took part in the Primary Schools Badminton Championship. He took part in the Single events.

He was randomly put into to groups of 5. He played against everyone in that group. He won against everyone in this first stage. As he won all five games he went into Group A. He then played 2 quarter finals and then a semi final and then competed against the other semi-finalist.  Euan just missed out from reaching the final game. He did a fantastic job in winning all of the games leading up to this point!

Below is a list of where he ranked overall. As he beat the other semi-finalist he ranked 3 out of 38 boys from all over West Lothian. We are so proud of his achievement and how he represented our school!

Euan said ” I felt exhausted but proud to get through all the rounds that I did.  I thought I was only going to get to the quarter-finals as last time I was put into a different group.”

 Rotary Photograph Competition

Ian Orr from the Rotary club contacted us to let us know that the winner of the photographic competition was Euan McCartney.

He said “it was a difficult decision as there was a wide and varied interpretation of the theme REFLECTIONS, for which all of the children who entered have to be congratulated.”

He thanked Torphichen Primary School for our support in this and the other competitions the Rotary club have run.

Euan said “I am quite surprised that I have won because I saw other entries and they were of a very high standard and I didn’t think I would have been chosen over them.”

Below is Euan’s entry taken at the Camera Obscura exhibition:

We are so proud of Euan’s success in Expressive arts and P.E! Well Done!

Skiing Competition

Well done to Marcus Miller, Martin Miller, Euan McCartney, Silvana Donaldson, Theo Donaldson and Alexander Fox-Roberts who took part in a Skiing competition on 15/3/17 at Braehead.

What a great, but long and tiring, day the children had. Mrs Miller shared that the children showed great determination and energy and lost track of how many runs they had on top of the timed ones.  The only reason Theo and Martin came off the slope was because the piste basher was coming out!

Below is a list of how the children ranked overall:

Silvana 25.21 (rank 57 out of 79 girls),

Euan McCartney 23.19 (rank 44 out of 93 boys)

Alexander Fox-Roberts 23.99 (53rd)

Theo Donaldson 24.46 (58)

Marcus 26.63 (74)

Martin 27.65 (80)

Also we came 25th out of 29th in the school team ranking – an improvement on the last one where came joint bottom.
