Look what’s happening in P3/4

We were visited by SSPCA and listened to a talk about caring for animals. We then played a game to build a rehoming centre sharing facts about animals to win parts for the centre. Afterwards we worked as a group to build a robot rabbit and programme it to move around using a simple coding programme.

We have been researching further about rainforests and have begun to make a layer book with the information we discover.  So far we have investigated the different layers of the rainforest.

We have been working in small groups to tell a story about life in the rainforest through dance. We were focusing on shape, speed, size and signals to move together.

We have listening and following instructions during PE whilst taking part in Cosmic kids Yoga.

In Problem solving we have continued to apply the “reason logically” strategy to solve different types of problems including, soduko, logic puzzles and kakuro.

During our NYCOS music time we started to explore simple musical notation alongside rhythm.

Charlie -I have been investigating and counting face, vertices and edges of 3D shapes.

Quinn – I have been learning how quadrilaterals are four sided shapes.

Ross – I have been developing my ability to draw 3D shapes.

Summer –  I have been writing paragraphs of information to use in my Rainforest Layer book.

P3/4 First week of learning in 2019

This week in P3/4 we have started our maths work on 2d and 3d shape – discussing faces, vertices and angles. We played guess the shape? Where we had to listen to clues and work out which shape was being described.

Martin & Grant – We were investigating the properties of 2D/3D shapes, e.g. Which 2D shapes do you need to make a net for a 3D shape?

We have also started our RME topic on Buddhism and IDL topic on rainforests where we have been sharing our knowledge and stating what skills and knowledge we would like to learn through both of these.

Charlie – We listened to the story of Buddha and discovered where Buddhism started.

Isla- In our Rainforest topic we know that they are cutting down the trees, so we will learn more and research about this issue.

On Thursday we had the first lesson of 12 from NYCOS. This week we were singing songs and finding and keeping the beat/pulse.

Quinn – We were singing songs and Keeping the beat and pulse.

Dylan – My favourite song was the Coca Cola song.

P3/4 – Christmas around the world

In P3/4 we  have been working in groups to research “Christmas around the world.” We have been applying our communication and teamwork skills to create a poster and presentation on a group selected country. We investigated the traditions and foods associated with our chosen country at Christmas time and also found out about the weather and flag of the country.

Layla – I think it’s really fun because we get to make powerpoints and posters and add lots of colour. I get to practise and develop my ICT skills.

Libby – I think it’s good because we learn about other countries and how they celebrate Christmas and we get to work on our ICT skills.

Charlie – We have been learning about how they celebrate Christmas in Brazil. Instead of Santa they have Papa Noel. We have been using Google to search for facts and then transferring them onto another laptop to use in a powerpoint.

Samuel – We have been researching about Christmas in Argentina and we found out that they have Papa Noel instead of Santa. We also discovered that some people have Christmas trees and some people don’t. We had to use our reading, spelling and ICT skills to help us complete the task.

We created Advent wreaths in groups using limited resources. We had to apply problem solving skills to investigate the best method to construct the final product.
