Farewell Message

I just wanted to say a BIG thank-you to everyone who made my last day at Stoneyburn Primary School so lovely.

Thank-you to all the staff and pupils who put together a fantastic assembly. It was lovely to see some of the things I’ve been involved in and to see all of the school’s dance moves!

Thank-you to all the parents who came to the assembly or spoke to me over the past week. I really appreciated all your kind words and best wishes.

Thank you to all the pupils in Primary 6/7 who made Friday such a fun day at out party. The music, dancing and dance-offs were brilliant.

Finally thank-you to the parents and pupils for your lovey messages in cards and very generous gifts. It was all very overwhelming on Friday but I want to say thank-you properly now.

It has been a pleasure working with all of your amazing children over the past 7 years. I wish you and them all the best and hopefully will be back for a visit sometime soon.

Primary 6/7 Boxing Taster Session

Today Primary 6/7 had the opportunity to work with Steven from Fauldhouse Boxing Club. He worked with them for 45 to improve their fitness levels and teach them some non-contact boxing basics.

Comments from the pupils:

David – Enjoyed the workout part, doing the press-ups.
Stuarts – Enjoyed the burpees challenges.
Connor – Steven was serious. He just got on with it. It meant we could do more.
Peter – At the start, he was teaching us right and left handed way so it was fair for everyone.
Dominic – Keeping our arms up in the boxing position was challenging.
Zoe – Not being able to moan (one of Steven’s rules).
Dawn – The challenge part of the session was really hard.
Rebecca – The two-touch jump was hard.
Connor – I learned how to move with my right foot in front as I usually do it with my left.
Rebecca – I learned that you should always moan, just do what your told and try your best.

Presentation and Fitness Skills with Jammin’ Andy

Yesterday Primary 6/7 (and Greenrigg Primary 7s) worked with Andy McKechnie all day on speaking in public. He taught the pupils some drills on how to help project their voice, speak at a steady pace and add expression to their voices.

Pupils used these skills to teach the other classes a dance/fitness routine (with the help of Andy). There was then a showcase where the classes showed each other what they had learned.

Pupils from all classes enjoyed working with Andy. Primary 6/7 pupils gained confidence through the event and the skills will help them when they come to present their individual c

lass talks and with the Summer Show.

SMK Dance Taster Session

The school participated in a dance workshop today run by our after-school dance teacher. Pupils got to try out a range of moves and dance games and had lots of fun.

Primary 6/7 Term 3 Highlights

It has been a VERY busy term in Primary 6/7 with lots of projects going at the same time. All the pupils have been working very hard with their learning, teamwork and representing our school with excellent manners.
These are Primay 6/7’s top 6 highlights of Term 3:

Dragon’s Den Project
Our main topic was Dragon’s Den. We had three teams called Golden Flame, Silver Sparks and Pegasus. We made products such as Shape It (a fun family game), name plaques (personalised plaques with a choice of coloured border) and personalised key rings (showing your name and first initial with a choice of colours). All of the teams were very successful and worked very hard. Silver Sparks came 2nd place in the competition between teams from Greenrigg Primary and West Lothian College.
P7 visit to Dalguise
In March a group of Primary 7s went to Dalguise for 5 days and learned a lot about themselves. We took part in activities such as: belaying, how to make a fire, how to build a shelter out of natural resources, going on the zip-wire, rock climbing and abseiling. Most of us enjoyed the giant swing because of the height and speed. It was a really great and successful trip to school camp.
Basketball Festival
In February we went to a Basketball Festival at Whitburn Community Centre. We were up against 4 other schools. There were 3 different courts and we had a team on each court. We came 3rd on Court 1, 2nd on Court 2 and 1st on Court 3. It was AMAZING!
Cross-Country Event
On Tuesday 22nd March we went to Blaeberry Hill Park in Whitburn for the Cross-Country Event. We were up against pupils from 10 different schools from the Whitburn Cluster. We were split into girls and boys for the races. We all received medals for finishing the 1.35km course.
Internet Safety and Bullying Drama Workshop
In February we went to a workshop in school about Internet Safety and Online Bullying. We were learning about Internet Safety by doing a drama with a lady called Lynsey.
Our class worked on 3 scenes then the Primary 5s did 3 scenes as well. We performed our script in front of the whole school and the parents who came in to watch.
3D Bird Models with Mr Henry
We made 3D birds with Mr Henry by using newspaper as the base. We then covered it in tissue paper then painted it white. We dried it with a hair dryer then painted in again in a colour we chose. The 3D birds stand up on a wooden stand.

Dragon’s Den Presentations

Today Primary 6/7 shared their presentations at West Lothian College in front of the 3 teams from Greenrigg Primary School, 3 teams from West Lothian College and the panel of “Dragons”.

All of the teams came prepared to deliver their presentations with clear, loud voices and made lots of eye contact with the judges. They really did themselves and the school proud.

A team from the college won over all with a bed time story book idea. Stoneyburn’s Team Silver Sparks came a close 2nd place.

All the judges commented on how professional Stoneyburn’s presentations were. I am very proud and impressed at how well Primary 6/7 presented themselves today. Excellent work. 🙂

Health and Sport Group

Lunchtime Clubs

Starting tomorrow the Health Pupil Voice Group are starting some Lunchtime Clubs. A rota of clubs will be on the wall at the infants door to the playground.

Monday – Running to Rio Club

Tuesdays – Games for P1 – 3

Wednesday – Running to Rio Club

Thursday – Games for P4 – 7

If you would like to join in the clubs, meet the Lunchtime Leaders and their helpers at the big square in the playground.

Health and Sport Group

Health Achievement Wall

The Health Group have been busy setting up our Health Achievement Wall as part of our Pupil Voice Groups.

On the wall is a section to celebrate sporting achievements outside of school. We would like pupils to bring in their new sports certificates, awards or trophies when they receive them from their after-school clubs. Their picture can then go up and be celebrated on the Health Achievement Wall.

The Health Group are also looking for flyers or posters for the wall to promote links to local sports clubs.

Basketball Festival

Yesterday Primary 6/7 attended a Basketball Festival at Whitburn Community Centre. We entered three teams into the event and were playing against teams from Greenirgg, Polkemmet, Whitdale and Fallahill Primary Schools.

Each team played in 5 games and competed in a mini-league on their court. At the end of a very exciting and well-run festival it was announced that Stoneyburn Team 1 game 3rd on Court 1, Stoneyburn Team 2 came 2nd on Court 2 and Stoneyburn Team 3 came 1st on Court 3.

The pupils and I are very excited and proud of these results. We have been working very hard on our Basketball Skills in P.E. and this hard work was clearly shown yesterday. The pupils knew the rules of Basketball well,were excellent team members and represented our school with high standards of behaviour.
