Anti Bullying Week 2013

logo

This week (18th – 22nd November) is Anti-Bullying Week across the country. Throughout the week, the pupils will be having a variety of appropriate Health and Wellbeing lessons to look at bullying and how to beat it. The week kicked off with a House Challenge Assembly with Mr. McDermott, featuring a lively and informative quiz – with all pupils sharing great knowledge and answers.

We are also encouraging parents and carers to find out more with your children at home via Scotland’s national Anti-Bullying Service Website ‘Respectme’. Click on the following link for more information:

The school also has its own Anti-Bullying Policy. Click below to view:

Progress Report 2012-13

Each year, the school reports on how well we are doing. We value the partnership with parents and that is why it is important to share our standards and quality report with you.
Below are two files that you can download that inform you of the progress the school has made; a summary document and the school’s full standards and quality report. If you would like anything clarified, please contact the school via the usual channels.

Keeping our children safe

As part of our Health and Wellbeing learning, we are always looking for ways to support parents at home, particularly with aspects of safety. In response to a parental request, we have identified a supportive website that provides tips and strategies to help to teach your child about a range of issues including:

– Stranger Danger
– Cyberbullying
– Assertiveness for Children

The website provides a range of leaflets and links to support parents and we hope that you will find it useful.

Five Sisters Zoo Fundraising

Our fundraising efforts for the Five Sisters Zoo got off to a fantastic start today! At playtime and lunchtime a number of raffles and games were available to try and we raised the grand total of £40.40. This was an amazing achievement for our very first day of fundraising. These activities will be available tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday. Raffles will be drawn on Friday morning.
Mrs Cotterell has very kindly donated £100 to the fund on behalf of SOC-IT and the group have also bought in some reptile and animal tattoos for Friday’s big event! SOC-IT have also arranged for ‘Zoe’s Face Painting’ to come along on Friday too and Zoe has very generously donated her time for free in support of the cause. This is very much appreciated.
On Friday, as well as all the exciting reptile activities going on in the classrooms, pupils will also be able to get their face painted for £1 or a tattoo for 50p.
What a fun-filled week for a sad, but very worthy cause!

Primary Seven: Snow day activities

Hello everyone!

I am sure you are all having a super day outside in the snow!
Here are a few ideas to keep you busy:

Science:
You could perhaps take this time to research some more energy saving tips for your pamphlet! Walk around your house …can you spot anything that you could improve on to help save energy? I hope those computers aren’t on standby! Take a note of any more ideas that you think of!

Language:
Write an acrostic poem about the snow. You could use the following words down the side of your page:

SNOWY DAY
WINTER
SNOWMAN
SNOWBALL
SCHOOL IS CLOSED
WHERE IS THE SUN?

Or write an imaginative story-with a wintery setting!
Make it as descriptive as you can with awesome alliteration (freezing fingers), similes (as cold as ice) and metaphors (My bedroom was a fridge). Don’t forget to think about VCOP too.

A Crafty idea:
Make a decorative ‘Ice Bowl’ – fill a bowl with water and add leaves, slices of fruit, sparkly sequins and buttons.
Place in the freezer or outside if it is cold enough and wait for your Ice Bowl to form.
Tip it out when frozen and take a photograph of it and bring it in to school!

Hopefully, I will see you all tomorrow!
Mrs Lough
