A Busy Week in P1/2

This week a lady visited us from the SSPCA.  She had brought a bag full of equipment that she uses to save and rescue animals in need.  Some of us were lucky enough to try on some of her equipment.

Alesha wore a reflective jacket but we were told that the SSPCA Officers would never wear this jacket in a field of sheep or cows as the animals would be really scared.  Daniel had a go of a Seal Bag.  This bag would be put over a seal to keep it calm and then it would be carried in the bag to the SSPCA van.  There are holes in the bag for the seal to breathe.

Darryl was lucky enough to wear the climbing equipment.  This equipment would be used if the SSPCA Officers had to climb to rescue an animal from a tree or cliff.  Darryl really wanted to climb out the window and over the school roof but he wasn’t allowed!

Aiden was our Badger Catcher for the morning.  He had to use a special piece of equipment to catch the badger around its neck and then tighten it so it wouldn’t escape.  The badger was very fast but it couldn’t escape ‘Aiden the Badger Catcher’.

Hide and Tell Box

Daniel put a really interesting object in the Hide and Tell Box this week and was able to give us some clues about it.  Lots of good questions were asked in class to try and find out more information about the object and Darryl was the person who guessed it correctly.  Well done Daniel and Darryl.

P 6/7 Technology

Some Primary 6/7 pupils have been using different types of construction materials to create interesting shapes during Golden Time.  Here are a few examples:

A busy week in Primary 3/4

This week we have been reading more of our class novel- The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark.  For technology, we made our own owls with wings that flap- we used split pins to attach the wings to the body and they could move.

We have also done some work on Wallace and Bruce and we were looking at their Coats of Arms and we’re colouring in shields in the correct colours.

We have had visitors in our classroom this week- Mrs Gibson joined us for writing on Wednesday and Mrs Gardinier was with us on Friday morning.  We were doing LEGO Maths with her and we were adding the dots on pieces together to reach target numbers. We worked on our own and in teams to find the answers.

P5 Hockey Skills

This term as part of our P.E lessons, we are learning about Hockey.  Today we learned the correct way to hold a hockey stick and played some games to practise our stick handling skills.  One of our favourites was called ‘Squeeze Ball’, where we had to work with a partner to ‘squeeze’ the ball between our sticks and lift if off the ground to waist height – we soon discovered that it wasn’t as easy as it sounded!!

Here are some pictures of us at work:

P6/7 Achievements and Targets

During Reflection Time Primary 6/7 identified some fantastic things that they had learned or achieved this week and thought of some targets to work on next week.

Achievements:

1.  Drama.  We worked as a team to pull together power-points for our countries adverts.  We talked to others in our group and made decisions together. We will put our adverts up when they are finished.

2.  Pre-topic Discussion: We bounced ideas off each other to come up with what we knew about The Highland Clearances and some questions we would like answered.

3.  Focusing on our work: We have been keeping our heads down and not stopped working.  This makes us feel happy so we can move onto other things.  We feel fantastic and enjoy the feeling of being finished.  We feel confident.

Targets:

1.  Get better/quieter when doing transitions between activities in class.

2.  Get better at finding information on the Internet when doing research.

P5 Peasant Houses

We have started our topic about Mary Queen of Scots.  To give us some insight into what life was like when she was alive, we have been finding out about clothes, housing and transport in the 16th Century.

We did a Critical Skills Challenge in groups to build a 3D model of a Peasant’s house from the 16th Century.  We had to combine what we had been learning in our topic with the technology skills we had been learning about – strengthening techniques in model-making.

Here are our finished models:

News from the P1/2 Superstars

Primary 1/2 have had a fantastic week getting to know each other and making some brand new friends.  Primary 2 pupils have worked very hard to help the new Primary 1s settle into class.

Primary 1 pupils enjoyed a lunch at school with their parents on Wednesday and they all did really well.  Everyone is looking forward to seeing the P1s in for full days next week.
