To extend our vocabulary, we have been learning about antonyms and synonyms (words with opposite or similar meanings). Have a look at Katie, Matthew, Sarah and Robbie G after they completed a set of loop cards:
Primary 6/7 Term 3 Highlights
It has been a VERY busy term in Primary 6/7 with lots of projects going at the same time. All the pupils have been working very hard with their learning, teamwork and representing our school with excellent manners.
These are Primay 6/7’s top 6 highlights of Term 3:
- Dragon’s Den Project
Our main topic was Dragon’s Den. We had three teams called Golden Flame, Silver Sparks and Pegasus. We made products such as Shape It (a fun family game), name plaques (personalised plaques with a choice of coloured border) and personalised key rings (showing your name and first initial with a choice of colours). All of the teams were very successful and worked very hard. Silver Sparks came 2nd place in the competition between teams from Greenrigg Primary and West Lothian College. - P7 visit to Dalguise
In March a group of Primary 7s went to Dalguise for 5 days and learned a lot about themselves. We took part in activities such as: belaying, how to make a fire, how to build a shelter out of natural resources, going on the zip-wire, rock climbing and abseiling. Most of us enjoyed the giant swing because of the height and speed. It was a really great and successful trip to school camp. - Basketball Festival
In February we went to a Basketball Festival at Whitburn Community Centre. We were up against 4 other schools. There were 3 different courts and we had a team on each court. We came 3rd on Court 1, 2nd on Court 2 and 1st on Court 3. It was AMAZING! - Cross-Country Event
On Tuesday 22nd March we went to Blaeberry Hill Park in Whitburn for the Cross-Country Event. We were up against pupils from 10 different schools from the Whitburn Cluster. We were split into girls and boys for the races. We all received medals for finishing the 1.35km course. - Internet Safety and Bullying Drama Workshop
In February we went to a workshop in school about Internet Safety and Online Bullying. We were learning about Internet Safety by doing a drama with a lady called Lynsey.
Our class worked on 3 scenes then the Primary 5s did 3 scenes as well. We performed our script in front of the whole school and the parents who came in to watch. - 3D Bird Models with Mr Henry
We made 3D birds with Mr Henry by using newspaper as the base. We then covered it in tissue paper then painted it white. We dried it with a hair dryer then painted in again in a colour we chose. The 3D birds stand up on a wooden stand.
Road to Rio- Parent Power
We are looking for YOUR help! We are trying to “Run to Rio” before the Olympics begin in August this year. As a school, we are trying to improve our levels of fitness by aiming to run a mile each day while we are in school and through this, we are collecting the miles we run together as a school, to try to make it to Rio, Brazil. We would like parents to join us in our running on a Friday morning at the very start of the school day. On Friday 8th April, we hope as many of you will join us to run or walk together for 15 minutes outside and help us meet our target. We will be doing this every Friday morning and hope that you will be able to join us each week or as often as possible. We really hope to see you there!
Goodbye to Ben
Last Friday we said goodbye to Ben. He has been attending Stoneyburn Primary with us on Fridays for quite a few years but last week was his last day with us. We celebrated Ben’s time with us with a whole school party, together in the hall. We were visited by Magic Mac- a very funny magician who entertained us with lots of tricks, jokes and music. We all had a great time.
We were sad to see Ben go, but as Mrs Gibson says- “Once a Stoneyburn Wean, always a Stoneyburn Wean!” 🙂 Here are a few pictures from our fun in the hall!
Teamwork & “Thank Yous” are important to us
In Nurture Class, we have been thinking about how much we need our friends and how important it is to work with friends to be successful. We spent time working together to put jigsaw puzzles together. We talked about how the friends in Toy Story helped one another and how they achieved things together. We work as a team in nurture and also in Stoneyburn Primary. We have lots of people in school who help us. We have Mr Bryce, Mrs Bennie, Mrs Gillies and Miss Smith, the teachers and all the others boys and girls in school. We are all very good at helping each other. Our Mums and Dads help us at home and we even like to help our parents with jobs at home as well!
We made “Being Helpful” promises and tried to keep these when we were in school. We also made thank you cards for people who helped us- we really enjoyed this and we think the people we gave the cards to really liked them.
3D Shape in P5
Learning, learning everywhere!
This week we moved our Maths outside. We had fun measuring with long sticks, that we had chosen. We all measured the same things, but we ended up with different answers. We decided that to measure accurately, we all had to measure with the same size of thing, we decided we could used rulers or metre sticks! It was fun.
We are still working on our French, now we can count up to 20. We also are practising our colours.
“I like learning French, we played a game of corners to help us with our colours, I hope we learn more numbers” – Hannah
As well as measuring we are working on our tables and number bonds.
“I know my 2,3,4, and 10 times table, I hope we do the x5 next I like doing maths” – Phoebe.
Eco Advert
Please have a look at the advert created by the Eco Pupil Voice Group today. It’s to encourage people not to take parts of their lunch outside to try to reduce the amount of litter in our playground and to keep ourselves safe.
You can view the advert on the school Plasma screen.
Away Day
The highlight of our week was definitely our trip to the Ecology Centre in Fife. We were split into two groups – P4 and P3. The children from Greenrigg joined us there too. P4 were taken by Louis who told us all about recycling and the effects that our waste, if not disposed of sensibly, had on the wildlife around us.
The Primary 3s were with Claire. She was telling us all about water, how important it is to us and how and why we should look after it. We played lots of games , they were fun but they also taught us something too. Did you know that our throwaway stuff can cause animals to be sick, or even die? We were amazed at the length of time that it takes some thing to disintegrate (Brodie’s brilliant word) and disappear back into the earth. A plastic bottle if recycled can be melted down and used for something else, but if it thrown away into landfill it will last for a million years!!
Rolling and Cycling
Roots of Empathy this week was a visit from Allie and her Mum. She was laughing with us this week. Every time Allie comes there is something different about her and she can do something new. At last she can roll over, but she wouldn’t do it for us. She has more hair now and pays us a lot more attention to us rather than just her toys.
“Baby Allie looked at me and started laughing” – Katie
In Science we are learning about food chains and food webs as part of our Topic about islands. We made food chains from pictures we had. Some were short but others had more steps in them.
“We learned that Food Chains are a cycle that can never stop and are very important for balancing life” – Brodie
Our week finished with World Book Day, we were allowed to come to school in our pyjamas. We also had to bring in our favourite book to tell the others about it and explain why it is our favourite
