This week has really flown in with lots of things happening within P6/5. Read on to hear what we have been up to:

· Fraser & Alfie – in music this week we were learning Gospel and sang a song from Sister Act and also a song called Little Light of Mine.

· Katie – we were learning our colours in French this with Mrs Ewing and she gave us extra table points if everyone in each group knew these.

· Alfie – we were all given our logins and password for the maths application Sumdog. This is a maths programme with games using maths questions. There is a competition next week for Maths Week so we can use these to answer questions for the competition.

· Eve – we started the weekly Special Person this week and the P6/5 Special Person is…Fraser! Well done!

· Callum – in maths this week we were doing place value – Mrs Rankin gave us a class treasure hunt to find and solve. We are all Ace Number Code Crackers!

· Hannah – we were working with P3/2 this week and began being Playground Pals and Lead Learners with them on Tuesday afternoon. Some of us have 2 pals!

· Brogan – we were looking at wind energy again this week to come up with ideas for models we could try to make for the Levenseat competition which is due at the end of the month. We all came up with ideas and we have narrowed it down to 3 ideas which we will try to make in the next couple of weeks.

· Charley – The P5s went swimming to Fauldhouse on Wednesday afternoon. We all enjoyed it.

· All – we had a punctuation lesson with Mrs Rankin & Mrs Warden as well. We worked in 2 groups – one group had sentences with the correct punctuation and one group had sentences with incorrect punctuation. We created posters relating to these and when we compared these, they were so different! It showed us how important it is that we use punctuation correctly in our writing.

For our wind energy models, would it be possible to look through your recycling bin for any large 2 litre plastic bottles, cardboard and kitchen roll tubes – no toilet roll tubes please as these are too small for our models.

P6/5

We are back and can’t believe our first week is over already! Welcome back every from P6/5!

We have had a busy week settling back into school and especially in our new classroom within the upper school.

This week we have been doing lots of things to get to know one another again. Here are some of our highlights:

· Hannah – we are doing Charlotte’s Web as a short topic for these first few weeks so have been hearing the story and doing some tasks relating to this story.

· Alfie – we started working on our Class Charter and this is going to be Emoji themed!

· Eve – we met our teachers this year who are Mrs Rankin and Mrs Ewing who will take us on Wednesday and for music and French on Thursday afternoons.

· Brogan – we completed the Bucket Filler which you fill up with happiness and positive things.

· Charley – we agreed on our group names and made signs and logos for these. Our group names are: Gangsta Gloop, Wise Wonkas and Bucket Billionaires.

· Callum – we made selfies of ourselves and a fact-file about ourselves.

· Keris / Leah – we had a tour of our classroom so that we know where everything we need is.

PE will be on a Monday and Wed so we need to bring gym kits on the these days.

On Wednesday 23rd November 40 P5-7 pupils from Greenrigg and Stoneyburn went to the Braehead Arena in Glasgow. We went to watch the European Curling Championships. We arrived at the arena at 11:30am so we could get settled before the men’s tournament that started at 12pm. We had a whole section of the stand to ourselves with an excellent view of the curling rink. We were given Scottish Flags to help us support and cheer for the Scottish team. We really enjoyed learning about curling and watching the championship. When Scotland were having their turn we made sure we cheered them on. Later on in the day we then had the women’s championship which started at 4pm. This time they were on a rink closer to us so we had a great view to cheer them on. The other spectators commented on how great it was to see us there supporting our Scotland teams. We had a great day out!

In p5/6 we have been working really hard this week practising for our Harvest Assembly. Please come along to the church for 10am on Monday the 10th of October watch our performance and to take part in the church service. At the assembly we will be challenging people to bring to school some tinned foods which will be sent to West Lothian foodbank. We would be grateful if you could donate your cans to the school before Friday the 14th of October. The class with the longest line of cans on the Friday morning will win an extra wheelie day!

Stoneyburn Primary School will shortly be running a survey with P5 to P7 pupils. The survey is called the Children’s Wellbeing Survey.
Each child will be asked to complete a short online questionnaire during class time. The results of the survey will be used to understand the wellbeing needs of children and help staff to improve services in your area.

In addition to the survey, information will be added to the survey answers. This is called data linkage. No names will be used when answering the survey or in linking the local authority information – there will be no way children or families can be identified. For more information on data linkage and other parts of the programme, please see the Frequently Asked Questions on this website.

This will help to improve the way children’s services are planned and delivered by your local authority and their partners, such as education or voluntary organisations. The results will not look at children’s responses on an individual basis. This ensures that all responses are unidentifiable.
The results of the project will be used to understand the wellbeing needs of children in your area.

Today we all had a great time at Tesco in Bathgate, learning where our food comes from and getting to try some fruit and cheese.  We also got to make our own roll, which Tesco kindly delivered to us at the end of the day!
