Yesterday we had a visit from Livi West Juniors Hockey, who taught us some skills and helped us work as a team when playing a game of Hockey.
If anyone is interested in joining this Hockey club, they train on Wednesday nights at Inveralmond Community High School, 6:30-8:00pm. Each session costs £4 and children may be selected to compete in games as well. Please email: Juniorsliviwesthockey@google.com for more information.
We have been learning about different types of energy: renewable and fossil fuels. We investigated the positives and negatives of each type and asked if we could hold a class debate to share what we had learned.
The motion used was: This house believes that renewable energy sources are the way of the future.
We split into the proposition and the opposition and Leah was our chairperson:
Over the past few weeks we have been monitoring the growth of some seeds that we planted. Some of us planted cress seeds, some planted spinach seeds and some planted peas. Our cress and peas were the most successful but we did get some of the spinach to grow as well. Have a look at our efforts below:
Today in maths we worked with the new IZAK 9 cubes again. We had to solve problems given to us by Mrs Robley and explain different ways of getting the answer using different strategies. Afterwards we created our own problem for another group to solve. Have a look at the problems created for us by other groups and how we solved them:

Literacy Circles is a reading activity, it helps you understand the story more. You have six different activities. These are Super Summariser, Illustrious Illustrator, Character Cop, Feelings Finder and Quizzing Questioner. The thing that puzzled me the most was when I had to think of an ‘application’ question. I used the question starter flowers on our class wall to help. (Robbie G)
The thing that helped me when something got tricky was when other people in my group helped me to think of WOW words to use for my ‘Feelings Finder’ task. (Sarah)

Yesterday Primary 6/7 (and Greenrigg Primary 7s) worked with Andy McKechnie all day on speaking in public. He taught the pupils some drills on how to help project their voice, speak at a steady pace and add expression to their voices.
Pupils used these skills to teach the other classes a dance/fitness routine (with the help of Andy). There was then a showcase where the classes showed each other what they had learned.
Pupils from all classes enjoyed working with Andy. Primary 6/7 pupils gained confidence through the event and the skills will help them when they come to present their individual c
lass talks and with the Summer Show.

This week, we have been helping our local community by getting involved with a community litter pick. On Tuesday our P1/2s collected 13 bags of rubbish from around our school grounds area. Much of this rubbish was caught up in long grass and bushes around the perimeter of the school fields. On Thursday, P5 and P6/7 collected 21 bags of rubbish from around out local community. We worked along the outside of the school, in among the bushes and around the daffodils; around the car park at the workshops; as far up as Foulshiels Park. We spent 2 hours outside and were amazed at the kinds of things people throw away. Some of us thought it would be a good idea to get a rubbish bin put at the bus stop because people seem to be using the hedge as a bin! We were all happy to take part and we were delighted that our village looked cleaner and tidier after all our hard work.
This Saturday there is a whole community opportunity to help pick up litter, starting at 10:30am at the Community Centre. There will be soup and rolls served at lunchtime for those who are able to help out with the pick. Then, in the afternoon, there are activities like planting potatoes, planting sunflower seeds and making bird boxes that everyone can take part in too. We hope as many of you as possible can come along!
P6/7 are looking for some shoe boxes of any size or shape for a craft project.
If anyone has any unwanted shoe boxes please could they be given to Miss Welsh or any P6/7 pupil.
