Primary 7 are looking for some newspaper for their transition project on Monday.
If you have any, please could you give it to a P7 pupil or Miss Welsh either on Friday or Monday morning.
Thank-you for your help.

Health Achievement Wall
The Health Group have been busy setting up our Health Achievement Wall as part of our Pupil Voice Groups.
On the wall is a section to celebrate sporting achievements outside of school. We would like pupils to bring in their new sports certificates, awards or trophies when they receive them from their after-school clubs. Their picture can then go up and be celebrated on the Health Achievement Wall.
The Health Group are also looking for flyers or posters for the wall to promote links to local sports clubs.
Basketball Festival
Yesterday Primary 6/7 attended a Basketball Festival at Whitburn Community Centre. We entered three teams into the event and were playing against teams from Greenirgg, Polkemmet, Whitdale and Fallahill Primary Schools.
Each team played in 5 games and competed in a mini-league on their court. At the end of a very exciting and well-run festival it was announced that Stoneyburn Team 1 game 3rd on Court 1, Stoneyburn Team 2 came 2nd on Court 2 and Stoneyburn Team 3 came 1st on Court 3.
The pupils and I are very excited and proud of these results. We have been working very hard on our Basketball Skills in P.E. and this hard work was clearly shown yesterday. The pupils knew the rules of Basketball well, were excellent team members and represented our school with high standards of behaviour.
French Directional Language
Primary 6/7 having been learning about directional language in French. They have been using what they have learned to programme some pro-bots to make a journey.
They have been confidently using phrases such as tournez a droite, tournez a gauche and allez tout droit to describe each journey.
Fundraising for Poppy Scotland
Last week Primary 6/7 were doing their very best to raise money for Poppy Scotland by selling toast at our”Toastastic Tuck-shop”. It was another highly successful adventure for the class. They learned or practiced skills such as communication, money handling, hygiene rules, food preparation rules and patience.
Primary 6/7 would like to say thank-you to all the pupils, staff and parents for buying toast and poppies which helped us to raise £183.25 for Poppy Scotland.
Highland Clearances Topic
Primary 6/7 have been learning about Scottish History through their Highland Clearances topic.
As part of their learning about living conditions, pupils worked in groups through a Critical Skills Challenge to make a replica “Blackhouse”. They had to discuss a list of criteria for the interior and exterior of the house and make decisions as a group. This helped to build on their talking and listening skills as well as maths and art skills.
Groups then designed a family (with at least 3 generations) to live in the house. The family were made into puppets which were used to act out a drama scene to show what life was like in 1800.
Here are a few pictures of the “Blackhouses” and crofters’ families.
If you know a child in P6/7, ask them to explain why they are called “Blackhouses” and describe some of the main features.
Fruity Friday – Back Again
Fruity Friday is back to help encourage people to eat a little bit healthier. By eating fruit or vegetables for your snack its going to help keep your muscles strong, make your hair grow, keep your skin healthy, keep your heart healthy and gives you lots of good energy.
Fruity Friday has changed this year.
What is the same?
Every Friday pupils should bring in fruit or vegetables to eat for their snack. Teachers will record this on Fruity Friday sheets.
What is new?
If you have fruit or vegetables for 5 Fridays you will get a Bronze certificate.
If you have fruit or vegetables for 10 Fridays you will get a Silver certificate.
If you have fruit or vegetables for 20 Fridays you will get a Gold certificate.
If you have fruit or vegetables for 28 Fridays you will get a Platinum certificate.
There will be a Fruity Friday Monitor for each class to make sure that winners get their certificates.
Fruit and vegetables can be eaten any day of the week for snack. Let’s get into some good eating habits.
Fruity Friday starts on Friday 2nd October.

P6/7 Achievements and Targets
During Reflection Time Primary 6/7 identified some fantastic things that they had learned or achieved this week and thought of some targets to work on next week.
Achievements:
1. Drama. We worked as a team to pull together power-points for our countries adverts. We talked to others in our group and made decisions together. We will put our adverts up when they are finished.
2. Pre-topic Discussion: We bounced ideas off each other to come up with what we knew about The Highland Clearances and some questions we would like answered.
3. Focusing on our work: We have been keeping our heads down and not stopped working. This makes us feel happy so we can move onto other things. We feel fantastic and enjoy the feeling of being finished. We feel confident.
Targets:
1. Get better/quieter when doing transitions between activities in class.
2. Get better at finding information on the Internet when doing research.
