Primary 1 and Primary 2 Christmas Party Photos
The boys and girls had a great time at their Christmas party yesterday afternoon and really enjoyed their special visitor who made it along to join them for a little while. The big question though was ‘how did he get here?’ Luckily, lots of boys and girls heard hooves on the roof of the gym hall so we are surmising Santa and his reindeer flew in to Stoneyburn yesterday afternoon! 🙂
JoJo Gnome Workshop – P2/1
The boys and girls in P2/1 were treated to very special visitors this afternoon for a fun, interactive workshop: author and illustrator, Jo Hall and JoJo Gnome!
The children were taken on an adventure around Sound Town where they met all the different characters who lived in the houses and discovered the sounds and dances they did.
They then heard the story ‘JoJo Gnome and the Cake Contest’ and listened very well to Jo reading and answered all her questions.
Then there was a smell challenge! They had to guess the smells of 4 different cupcakes. They turned out to be lemon, mint, caramel and orange.
During the week, the boys and girls had worked hard to design cupcake pictures and these were then used to create an animation with Jo. She will edit these and forward them to us.
JoJoGnome can be found on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Busy Bees in P2/1
What a very busy time P2/1 have been having! Over the past few weeks we have been busy making lots of beautiful things for the Christmas Fayre – which was a great success, so Thank You! Our class raised nearly £70 so we will enjoy spending our money on new games for RAP time after the New Year.
Yesterday we received a letter from the main man of the season – Santa Claus!! He wrote to us to tell us that some of his elves had been a bit silly and had forgotten to write down the things that children had wanted beside their name. He asked for our help to write another letter to check if he had managed to sort everything out! Our Primary 2 girls worked very hard with Mrs Campbell on this job and Primary 1 did a fantastic job of writing their letters. Lots of detailed pictures and great sounding out of words using sounds that they know. These letters are sure to make Santa’s job very easy!
Our main focus over the past couple of weeks has of course been our Christmas Nativity. The boys and girls have been working extremely hard to learn their lines, song words and all of their stage actions. You are going to be very impressed when you come along to see it. It was exciting last week when we got to try on our costumes for the first time!! Our first Show is on Tuesday at 1.30pm and our evening performance is at 6.00pm. We can’t wait for you to see our show!
Superuser in a Super School!!!
Is there nothing our fantastic school can’t do?
We are delighted to announce that Mrs Robley has become the first Izak9 Superuser in West Lothian and the first primary school in Scotland! She has had to work hard with the children in P4-7, develop plans and showcase to parents to gain this ‘superuser’ status.
The following is taken from the Izak9 website and describes what a ‘superuser’ is:
“Superusers are passionate and innovative practitioners who have made an outstanding contribution to raising standards in the teaching and learning of maths. They are a source of inspiration for Izak9 users globally, as examples of their leading practice are shared on their own Superuser pages, in our Izak9 blog section and on twitter.
To be certified as an ‘Izak9 Superuser’, teachers must complete school based milestones, evidence of which demonstrates how effectively these teachers use Izak9 to positively impact on the quality of the teaching and learning provision across their school community.
Superusers are certified to provide Izak9 training and workshops to neighbouring schools and to work with Qubizm staff in developing additional resources and training programmes that enhance the quality of the offering Izak9 presents to schools.”

We are very proud of Mrs Robley and the work that she has done in this area across Stoneyburn and Greenrigg Primaries and we are delighted that this has been recognised by Izak9. Well done! 🙂
P2/1 ‘Learning Together’
Wonderful Word Week in P2/1
What a fantastic start to Term 2 in P2/1!
On Wednesday, we were introduced to someone who has been living in a box in our classroom! He’s been hiding and the P1 boys and girls have been asking who he is and what he does. The P2 girls know all about him and were very excited to share what they knew. His name is Stitch.
We received a letter from him to say that he had been listening carefully to our learning and he knew that we were now ready to help him save his planet! He comes from a planet very far away and on his planet, words are generated to created power. However, his planet are running low on new words and life is very difficult with little power. So he needs our help! He’s back on his mission to collect new vocabulary.
He has asked P2/1 to send any new vocabulary that they learn, read or write so it can be sent back to his planet to be put into the vocabulator – the machine that changes words into power!
The boys and girls are VERY excited to start sending words and have been listening very carefully to stories to hear if they can spot any words that are new to them.
We are also starting to sort new vocabulary into anchor words, goldilocks words and step on words.
Anchor words – words that we hear a lot and we all mostly know the meaning of.
Goldilocks words – words that are not too easy or too tricky. Words that would be great to use in our writing.
Step on words – words that we don’t hear that often or that are very specific to topics.
STV Children’s Appeal
***STV Children’s Appeal***
Thank you once again to everyone who came along to support our fundraising event for the STV Children’s Appeal with Sean Batty! The final figure raised from dress down and sponsored welly walk was the grand total of £1246! This is an outstanding achievement for our wee school so a HUGE ‘thank you’ to everyone who contributed and supported us.
The PTA also held a very successful coffee morning and the proceeds from the teas and coffees and the bake sale raised £110.05. This amount will be added to the PTA funds and they will let you know in due course what the money will be used for.
Thank you once again for a very successful morning 🙂
P2/1’s Trip to Whitelees Windfarm
The children in P2/1 enjoyed their trip to the windfarm on Monday and learned lots of new information about wind turbines and renewable energy.
We will share more about our learning in our reflection blog on Friday, but in the meantime, we hope you enjoy looking at our photographs from Whitelees…
Another awesome week in P2/1
What a busy week our P2/1’s have had!
We started our week practising hard for our Harvest assembly that was held up at the Church on Tuesday. All the children from P1, 2 and 3 worked very hard to learn songs, lines and actions and performed ‘The Little Red Hen’ very confidently to their friends and family at the Church. What a lot of Confident Individuals we have at Stoneyburn PS! I cannot wait for the Christmas Show – the standard has been set!
On Wednesday, we had to work on our windmills for the Levenseat Competition that is taking place next week. We have been busy learning about windmills and then had to design and make our own. We learned that if the sails are folded, then they will (hopefully!) catch the wind better and spin around. On Thursday afternoon, we went outside to test them out! Some of them worked quite well and then a group of boys decided to place them on the fence so that they looked like a real wind farm!
Thursday morning was also very exciting and we enjoyed our sponsored Welly Walk around the school field, the weather disco and dressing up in different weather clothes.
We are looking forward to our trip on Monday. Please remember to bring a packed lunch on Monday morning and wrap up warm!
