There will be an uplift from Rag Bag on Monday 18th February. Any clothing you can donate would be very welcome. Bags will be accepted in school from Wednesday onwards.
Lego Club Update
The St. John the Baptist Primary School Lego Club is now going from strength to strength. We now have two sets of ‘WeDo’ educational software and the ‘Wee-Doers’ are looking forward to building models with much more hands-on experience.
For older pupils, ‘Nexty’ is now fully assembled, ready to start moving! Using ‘Mindstorms’ software, they have called themselves ‘Generation Next’ as they now use the Robot Educator to design their own programmes.
Cinquain Poems
Primary 7 have been working on different types of poetry. Cinquain( sin-cane ) poems are 5 lines long and are written in the shape of a diamond. They can be written in a 2,4,6,8,2, syllable pattern or 1,2,3,4,1 word pattern. Examples of poems to follow.

P6 Forest School
In our second term, we went to Forest School every second Tuesday. Some of the activities we took part in were tree identification, knot tying, making the digestive system using natural sources and making tree masks from mud. Primary 6 loved Forest School but Mrs Traynor usually had very sore ears by the end of the day! Here are some of our photos:
Powerwise Talks
On the 28th February all classes will be taking part in Powerwise Activities. A Teacher from SP Energy Works will be coming to teach us about electrical safety in our school and homes. Something to look forward to!
Pirates topic-What we have been learning.
This week we have been learning about real pirates and pretend pirates. We learned about the terrifying pirate called Blackbeard who was areal pirate. Mrs Nolan has set a homework challenge -To build a model of a pirate ship. Hope you have all began planning your models and looking forward to seeing them all. Closing date is Monday 18 th February. The class are really enjoying this topic and have brought in lots of pirtate related to objects for our class display.Look out for photos of our displays.
Fauldhouse – 100 years
Primary 4 have been looking at Fauldhouse over 100 years. We have been looking at mining in the village to start with. If anyone has anything to contribute regarding this topic please feel free to contact the school as your information or knowledge shared would be appreciated.
Chinese New Year
The children have been learning some interesting facts about the Chinese New year. This is the year of the snake and the children have been investigating the years that their family was born. They have also watched a DVD about Festivals and followed a family’s celebrations. The children were all born in the year of the Pig and have been creating some beautiful pictures which are displayed in the corridor outside the classroom.
St John’s Credit Union
Primary 6 are about to begin working with the West Lothian Credit Union to set up a school credit union to encourage children in the school to begin saving. More information will be available in the forthcoming money week and we hope to have this up and running after the Easter holidays.
