Jeans for Genes Day

 PRESS RELEASE

Pupils at St John the Baptist Primary School will be swapping uniforms for jeans/denim clothing to raise money on

JEANS FOR GENES DAY, FRIDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER 2013

 Suggested donation £1

Jeans for Genes Day raises money for Genetic Disorders UK, the charity that aims to transform the lives of children with genetic disorders.

Genetic disorders affect 1 in 25 children in the UK – that’s more than 30,000 babies born each year. Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 and under.

Primary 6 – w/e 30.8.13

Primary 6 have had a great first fortnight back at school!

We have started our Highland Clearances topic which is based around the novel ‘The Desperate Journey’ and chosen our articles for Rights Respecting Schools. As part of this, we have created a class ‘expectations’ charter which we have all signed up to.

Yesterday, we helped the countryside trust plant some wild flowers near the cemetery. Mrs Traynor apologises for the mucky children who went home last night!

We finished off our week by celebrating mass with Father Paul Lee who used to go to our school! We wish Father Paul all the very best and congratulations on his Ordination.

Primary 6 – w/e 24.5.13

After a lovely long weekend, primary 6 were straight back into the swing of things with Bugsy Malone rehearsals and more work on partitioning in maths.

We have started visiting the nursery every day in preparation for ‘buddying’ the new starts after the Summer. We are also taking on the P7 duties in our final few weeks of primary 6.

* Costumes for Bugsy need to be in school and checked as soon as possible. Anyone wanting to wear their Bugsy outfit to walk with the school in the Gala Day can have it returned for that weekend.

We would like to wish P4 good luck for their First Communion on Saturday.

Well on our way…

We had our second credit union take place in school this week with Rebekah and Kane on hand to help with money collection and our PR Assistants doing a great job of advertising and collecting children from the classes.

We would still love EVEN MORE people to join! It is a great way to save!

Here are some facts and figures about the numbers joining from each class:

Nursery: 3
P1: 7
P2: 4
P3: 9
P4: 9
P5: 7
P6: 17
P7: 2
Teaching Staff: nearly all!

We are hoping that we will be able to make application forms available via the BLOG so keep your eye out. In the meantime, please contact P6 if you would like to join.

A reminder to P7 – it is still worth joining as you can continue this at St Kent’s!

P6 – week ending 26.4.13

The P6 credit union workers were busy this week as our very FIRST EVER money collection took place. Dani and Sara were on shift to help out the ladies from the credit union and lots of children brought in money towards their savings.

We would love even more children to join the credit union – just ask in P6 for an application form.

We have started rounders and cricket in PE this term with Miss Stewart and we are all enjoying it.

We are looking forward to our class trip to New Lanark on Wednesday 8th May and we are practising hard for Bugsy Malone.

Primary 6 Homework Projects

Way back in January, Primary 6 were given a homework project to be handed in by the end of term. They were to research the Moon and then present this to class in any format they wished.

So far Mrs Traynor has been amazed with the work submitted. Posters, booklets, power point presentations… they are ALL fantastic!

*REMINDER TO P6: Tomorrow is the last day to hand in your homework projects!

P6 – Snow Day 19.3.13

Well Primary 6… I think it is just as well that our trip to New Lanark was cancelled!

<a href="“>There are plenty of activities to keep you busy today on the P6 blog home page which you can find by clicking on this sentence.

Remember you all now have your Bugsy Malone scripts home now too so switch on those New York accents and get practising! You can find all the links to the songs on youtube too!

Reading all your science fiction imaginative stories is keeping me occupied today but I think I’ll be making time for some sledging too! Have fun and stay safe!
