West Lothian Council, Education Services, Admission Arrangements for Specialist Provision 2014
Outcome of the Public Consultation (14 November 2014 – 16 January 2015)
The outcome of the public consultation “West Lothian Council, Education Services, Admission Arrangements for Specialist Provision 2014”, which extended to 35 school days, was published on-line on 30 April 2015.
The outcome of the consultation was reported to the Education Policy and Development Scrutiny Panel on 5 May 2015. An officer report on the outcome of the consultation was considered by the Education Executive on 26 May 2015.
Following careful consideration of the officer report and all of the information received from stakeholders during the consultation period, including the report and recommendations of Education Scotland, the Education Executive agreed to the adoption of: the admission arrangements for specialist provision; and a single catchment area for all specialist provision, to ensure equity within West Lothian for all children and young people with additional support needs.
The Admission Arrangements for Specialist Provision can be found using the following weblink www.westlothian.gov.uk/specialist-admission-arrangements
Primary 4 have been doing lots of work on preparing for First Communion which took place on Saturday 23rd May. We were so blessed to have the sun shining on us on our special day. The children were fantastic and some of their classmates who weren’t making their First Communion also came along to support them which was lovely.
We are now working hard on our assembly to share what we have learned about Sacraments with the rest of the school.
We have been really enjoying our topic Under The Sea and we have been learning about all the different animals you can find there. We worked hard on making some of these animals for our topic wall…
This week in maths we have been learning about fractions and we have been using shapes to make halves and quarters.
We have been learning all about Mini Beasts and the life cycles of worms, butterflies, ladybirds and bees. We know why all of these insects are good for our gardens and for our environment. We have been learning about minibeasts who make cocoons and turn into something very different, like caterpillars turning into butterflies. Here is our topic wall in the classroom:
Along with P1K, we have been learning French and we know our numbers to 10.
We are all getting excited about dressing up for the Gala Day now and we really hope that the weather is sunny, sunny, sunny!
We have been learning about Mini Beasts.
This is what Jessica had to say about what we have been learning…
We have been learning about how bees are born… they start off as an egg, then they come out as a wormy shape, then they go into a coccoon and then they come out as a bee! We have also been learning about how caterpillars turn into butterflies. We know that worms live in the soil and they help to make the soil nice and soft so it is good to have worms in your garden. Worms don’t like too much water because they could drown. It is also good to have ladybirds in your garden because they eat greenflies and greenflies eat your plants so ladybirds help to save your plants!
We can’t believe that we are nearly at the end of Primary 1. We are looking forward to going into Primary 2 and we can’t wait to find out who our new teacher is going to be!
We have just finished our topic on the Titanic. We learned it set off on its maiden voyage from Belfast in April 1912 and it sank on April 14th 1912 after hitting an iceberg. The musicians on board kept playing until the ship sank, we thought this was brave but also sad. We had a look at different people involved with the Titanic, including the Captains of both the Titanic and the SS California, the lookouts, the designer and the engineers, and came up with our own opinions about who might have been to blame. We built our own Titanic in the classroom and we made cabins from tissue boxes. Here is a photo…
This week we have been focusing on internet safety. We made leaflets about how to stay safe online. We have also been watching videos on newsround. Here are some of our top tips:
~ don’t become friends with someone you don’t know
~ don’t talk to people online that you don’t know
~ never arrange to meet up with anyone
~ always tell your parents to check friend requests
~ always tell your parents if something doesn’t feel right or bothering you
~ never give out your personal information
This week, we have been researching man-made and natural disasters. We have written newspaper reports based on these. Some of the things we have been looking at are the Nepal earthquake, Hurricane Katrina, September 11th and the sinking of the Titanic. We have been doing volcano art with paint and chalk. Next week, we will be making an erupting volcano and we can’t wait.
We have also been working on our Keeping Myself Safe topic this week and our focus has been on keeping safe with strangers when on a bus.
In maths, we have been dividing decimals! It is quite easy once you get the hang of it! We have also been doing lots of check ups on addition. Mrs Traynor has given us a murder mystery to solve and we are working our way through the clues. Who will be the first to solve the crime?
Last week, we went to St Kent’s for the Literacy Day where the focus was on Modern Languages. We started off with our presentation on Spain which included a quiz and we performed Spain’s national anthem ‘La Marcha Real’. We then split into groups and went into different classes to write postcards. Here is our quiz if you want to have a go…
We have been looking at Andy Warhol’s art and we chose a symbol related to the Scottish Parliament and we drew these in the style of Andy Warhol.
This week, we have writing different styles of poetry including haikus and limeracks. You can see some of our haikus in the picture below…
Next week, we are looking forward to going to St Kent’s on Tuesday and Wednesday for our transition days. Only 3 weeks left of primary school. Who can believe it?!
