Our Anderson Shelter

As we are learning about WW2, we are attempting to build a realistic Anderson shelter in our classroom.

Catch up with our progress here.

Working together to make a secure frame.

We had to find out what they looked like inside and out.

We then displayed the research so that we could all use it for reference.

Hmm. I think this is straight.

And so to work…

Can you work out what Yasmine is making?

As the first bombing raid in London started on a sunny Saturday afternoon,  we needed blue sky to surround our shelter.

Ewan and Keira very carefully measured the background

The panels were corrugated for added strength.  We tried to recreate this with paper.  It was very fiddly work.

Trying to curve and secure the paper.

On went the roof.
We were in the middle of an air raid.
but had time to stop for a cup of tea.
We researched Air Raid Wardens, Firefighters & Local Defence Volunteers and then created life size characters.
It is almost finished!
Inside…
and outside.
