Scottish Book Week

Tiddler

As part of Scottish Book Week both P5 classes have been taking a closer look at Julia Donaldson books. On Monday we read and discussed The Gruffalo and Room on a Broom. We looked at the main ideas of the books and how Julia used language to engage the reader.

On Tuesday we worked in smaller groups. Each group had a different Julia Donaldson book to read and create 6 questions about. Here are some of the groups with their book and questions.

The Snail and the Whale
The Gruffalo's Child
The Stick Man
Cave Baby
Monkey Puzzle

The groups then visited each other and answered the prepared questions. The 6 questions included an open ended question, true/ false, sequencing, cloze procedure, a question that requires evidence and a vocabulary question.

P5A’s trip to Scotland Street Museum

Our topic this term is the Victorians. As part of our learning we experienced what it was like to go to school as a Victorian child. We got dressed like Victorian children, took part in maths and spelling lessons and got to use a quill with ink to write like the Victorians.
The boys lined up smartly before class.
The girls had to make sure they were an arm's length behind the person in front of them.
Rogan was selected to give out the chalk for our slates.
We had to put our hands on our head to show we were ready for the next task.
Rachel had to spell a word in front of the class.
Finn and Sophie using quills to do their handwriting.
The boys sat separately from the girls.
